Wii Virtual Console releases for this week

E3 has come and gone, but at least you can count on Mondays to deliver three new Virtual Console games ready for download on your Wii.

Paper Mario (2001, N64, 1000 Wii points)--A game that completely reinvented the Mario franchise, Paper Mario made way for games like the acclaimed GameCube title Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and the more recent gem, Super Paper Mario on the Wii. Balloon Fight (1986, NES, 500 Wii points)--One of the most recognizable games in the history of the industry is now available for download. Few titles have been resurrected as many … Read more

Hands-on with the new PSP

James Yu at GameSpot got to spend some quality time with the newly redesigned PSP at last week's E3 show. Some of the details he confirmed during his hands-on session with the new PSP:

The reduced weight is noticeable when you pick it up. The new battery is slimmer. Old PSP batteries can be used to "double playing time," but the battery cover won't fit over top of it. Instead, Sony will offer a high-capacity power kit with a fitted cover. The control layout is essentially the same, but GameSpot editors felt the d-pad and buttons … Read more

E3 2007--in under 4 minutes

Miss any of this week's big E3 news? CNET TV's got you covered. Veronica Belmont wraps up all the announcements from Santa Monica, including the highlights from Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

Earlier CNET TV coverage:

CNET TV: Microsoft E3 press conference highlights: Rock Star, Gears of War on PC, and--of course--Halo 3 CNET TV: Focus on 'Wii Fit'

E3: 'Wii Fit' gameplay video

Health-conscious gamers can finally put the Wiimote down and put away Wii Sports. Nintendo's upcoming Wii Fit uses the new Wii Balance Board controller to measure how you move as you stretch, dance, and dodge through 40 different fitness activities. Wii Sports is expected to hit stores early next year.

E3: A first-timer's retrospective

My time here in Santa Monica is coming to a close, and I'm still not sure how I feel about my first E3 experience. I knew that it wasn't going to be as over-the-top as years past, but I guess its reputation was still built up in my mind.

Apparently, going smaller also means going more spread out. I don't think I went to a meeting or a shoot in the same location twice! From the Fairmont Hotel (valet parking was full, I had to double-park blocks away to pick up my registration pass) to the Barker … Read more

E3: 'Metroid Prime 3: Corruption' gameplay

Nintendo finally brings Metroid to the Wii with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Once again, gaming's favorite female bounty hunter Samus Aran must don her visor and arm blaster and save the galaxy. This time around, Samus gets a new suit of power armor with a hyper mode that could either help her or destroy her. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption ships August 27.

How E3 changes the video game industry each year

As someone who owns an NES, SNES, Genesis, 3D0, every version of the Gameboy, PSP, DS, PlayStation, Dreamcast, Saturn, Xbox, GameCube, Nintendo 64, PlayStation 2 and 3, Xbox 360 and Wii (phew!), I was always a big fan of games and the news that used to come in May at E3. And while my love of video games has cooled over the past few years, the recent E3 coverage has me thinking: what will the next year of gaming actually bring?

Although it isn't nearly as big as it used to be, E3 is still the industry's premier … Read more

E3: 'Contra 4' gameplay video

Konami brings side-scrolling, alien-shooting action back with Contra 4, the first true Contra sequel since 1992's Contra III: The Alien Wars for the Super Nintendo. Black Viper and his alien hordes want to destroy humanity, and Bill and Lance (the heroes of Contra III) must stop them. Contra 4 hits the Nintendo DS later this year. Until then, you can play Contra III: The Alien Wars through the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console, or the original Contra arcade game through the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade.

E3: 'Super Mario Galaxy' gameplay movie

Mario takes to the stars in Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii. Control gaming's favorite plumber with the Wiimote and nunchuck as you explore planetoids, asteroids, and various other celestial -oids to collect stars. The game's round worlds will incorporate some truly funky puzzles, with gravity playing a major part in their solutions. Super Mario Galaxy hits the Wii on November 12.

E3: 'Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles' trailer

You just can't keep an evil, zombie-spawning corporation down. Capcom continues the Resident Evil story with Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, a rail shooter for the Nintendo Wii that has you loping through creepy, cramped hallways and blowing the heads off of hideous, mutated monsters. The game supports the newly announced Wii Zapper, so you can actually aim a "gun" at these creatures instead of just the Wiimote. Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles ships later this year.
