Mossberg: About that 3G iPhone in June...

The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg would like you to know that he has no clue when the 3G iPhone is coming, and no, he can't get you one.

So the gadget guru told Silicon Alley Insider today, after comments he made at a conference last week surfaced over the weekend. During a talk about broadband penetration and online video, Mossberg casually mentioned of the iPhone, "it will be 3G in 60 days."

Apple ships Final Cut Server

Apple's tool for media management, Final Cut Server, is now available, the company announced Tuesday.

The software application is meant for managing the production of large-scale video projects. Final Cut Server enables automatic cataloging, viewing, and annotating of video, and is available for both the Mac and PC. It is integrated with Apple's video-editing software, Final Cut Studio.

The product was announced a year ago, was originally supposed to ship last summer, but was delayed.

Final Cut Server pricing starts at $999 for one server and 10 licenses, and $1,999 for one server and unlimited licenses.

Nokia shows off 'Tube' iPhone-lookalike

The world's largest handset maker is starting to talk about its response to Apple's iPhone, almost 10 months since the iPhone made its debut.

Nokia showed off the Nokia Tube in a presentation slide noticed by Infoworld at a software development conference in California Monday. The Tube, like the iPhone, is a touch-screen phone that can be manipulated using your fingers, and is Nokia's "first touch device," according to Tom Libretto of Forum Nokia.

Apple issues QuickTime updates

Apple has released a QuickTime security update to address "highly critical" security flaws in its media player that could allow malicious attackers to take control of a user's system.

The security flaws affect QuickTime 7 versions running on the Mac OS X and Windows. Users are advised to update to QuickTime 7.4.5, according to an Apple advisory issued Wednesday.

Apple issued 11 security updates designed to prevent malicious attackers from disclosing users' sensitive information, executing arbitrary code, or causing an application to suddenly crash.

Apple might be set to overhaul the design of its flagship notebooks later this year, according to a report.

AppleInsider believes that the MacBook and the MacBook Pro are due for a face-lift, but doesn't provide specific timing for the new rollout. If Apple follows through, the MacBook will get the most significant overhaul, moving from a plastic chassis to an aluminum one that's already in place on the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac computers.

Apple cuts expected flash memory spending by $200M

Apple has cut its 2008 flash memory orders by $200 million, according to iSuppli, setting up a down year for flash vendors.

In February, iSuppli reported that Apple was slashing its orders of flash memory amid a weakening economy, but iSuppli wasn't sure exactly how far the cuts would go. After crunching the numbers, iSuppli now expects Apple to spend $1.4 billion on flash this year for iPods and iPhones, up 12 percent from $1.2 billion last year. Mossberg: 3G iPhone coming in 60 days

Uncle Walt thinks a 3G iPhone will arrive within the next 60 days.

Walt Mossberg, the legendary technology columnist for The Wall Street Journal, made the prediction during an executive summit held by Beet.tv last week. For some reason, Mossberg's comments were not noticed until over the weekend, perhaps because the title of the post referencing his talk was "FTC Should Stop Verizon from Calling DSL 'Broadband,' Walt Mossberg."
