Armani phone: Where geek meets chic

Walking into an upscale boutique, one is bombarded with all things designer--clothes, shoes, handbags, and even makeup. As if all those objects of temptation weren't enough, Armani has reportedly teamed up with Samsung to design a cell phone that will appeal to label fiends everywhere.

Armani has not released an official statement on the phone. But The Korea Herald, citing an unnamed Samsung representative, is reporting that plans are in the works and the phone will likely be released in Europe this October. However, "the two companies have not signed a contract yet," the story said.

Convert movies for your iPhone (or iPod)

I'm not sure how you people can watch movies and TV shows on those little screens, but you sure are doing it! Every time I turn around on the bus or in the airport, somebody is watching video on her iPod. (If she's supercool, she's watching it on her new iPhone.)

AT&T reports initial iPhone subscriber numbers

AT&T said it that it signed up 146,000 new subscribers in the first two days it offered the iPhone, slightly down from some Wall Street expectations, but the promise of iPhone madness is still alive.

Wall Street analysts had predicted that AT&T would activate 200,000 iPhones in June, but the actual number reported on Tuesday when AT&T discussed second quarter results fell short of this goal. The iPhone, which is only being sold through AT&T, went on sale June 29th. AT&T's second quarter officially ended June 30th.… Read more

Text-for-charity takes off at Virgin Mobile

Don't tell mainstream marketers this, but text-messaging promotions can work.

At least for Virgin Mobile, which used the power of its network of 5 million mobile customers to raise money and awareness for homeless children in America. (There are an estimated 1.2 million to 2.8 million children and teens who are homeless in the United States.) In partnership with the nonprofit YouthNoise, among others, Virgin Mobile urged its customers, via text message, to donate $1 from their account to help homeless kids by sending the word "donate" to the short-code 66473 (or "noise"). … Read more

Democrat wants u 2 txt 4 peace in Iraq

Text messaging as means of political outreach is hardly a new idea, but 2008 Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich claims a new drive launched by his campaign on Monday stands out from all the rest.

The vegan congressman from Ohio is asking Americans opposed to the Iraq war to text the word "peace" to the number 73223. From there, he plans to forward on the responses to President Bush and the Pentagon.

It all amounts to what his campaign staff calls "the first time text messaging has been used to try and change American policy." (Wait, … Read more

But, there's one more thing...

Apple CEO Steve Jobs usually waits until the end of his keynotes to deliver the real news. We'll start from the start.

This post kicks off One More Thing, a personal blog in which I'll share with you my take on Apple, the chip industry, and the gradual evolution of mobile computing as the PC starts to look more and more like the clock radio. It's going to be a combination of news and commentary, mostly on Apple but also on the chip industry and the development of the truly mobile computer.
