With a dual-clutch manual transmission, turbocharged direct-injection engine, magnetically controlled suspension, and Quattro all-wheel-drive, the Audi A3 delivers excellent handling and performance. But as a tech car, it suffers from a poor interface and outdated infotainment systems.
At first we found the 2009 Toyota Venza to be a bit off-putting, with its genre-bending form factor. After a week with the Venza AWD V-6, we're convinced that Toyota has hit upon an interesting sweet spot between SUV utility and sedan livability.
Once seated in its spacious cabin, we found even more to like about the Venza, including an impressive cabin tech package that features Bluetooth A2DP audio streaming and a clever center console cable-management system that had us all asking, "Why didn't I think of that?"

In Aptera Motor's manufacturing facility, visitors are given a sledgehammer and encouraged to swing away at the company's electric vehicle prototype. Dent it, and you can win $100.
This challenge, of course, will not apply to accidents on the streets when the three-wheeled aerodynamic vehicle hits California's congested highways in October.
The hands-on exercise demonstrates the vehicle's inherent safety, and is an attempt to overcome the perception that a small, lightweight, three-wheeled vehicle isn't as safe as a conventional gas-fueled car. … Read more
Every once in a while a YouTube clip will inspire you, though this one may give you the chills. The Saab Performance Team is in Northern Sweden putting the Saab 9-3x through the paces on an icy track. This clip posted by Swade99 will warm up any winter day.
One of the great innovators in Formula 1, Gordon Murray, just announced manufacturing licenses for T.25 City Car and the iStream manufacturing process.
The T-25 is smaller than a Mini Cooper and will come in four styles. Development of the process began more than 15 years ago, and has already won the prestigious 2008 "Idea of the Year" award from Autocar, the world's oldest car magazine.
According to Gordon Murray Design, the manufacturing licenses will dramatically change not only the cars people drive and the way those cars are made, but also how the cars are … Read more
Here's a good way to build a cheap car: take out the airbags, power steering, rear seat belts, antilock brakes, and most cylinders, all frills, and other standard safety equipment. Do that and you'll end up with a four-door, four-seater, 33-hp two-cylinder car that you can sell to a hungry market with decidedly low expectations for about 100,000 rupees ($1,988). This still seems kind of expensive when you consider that you can buy a new Kia Rio for $10,000.
Often called the Model T of the 21st century, the Tata Nano is expected to go into production for the growing Indian automotive market on March 23, with orders being accepted in April.… Read more
If we were rating the Volkswagen Jetta TDI purely on the merit of its engine, it would be a shoe-in for our Editors' Choice award.
With great torque, fuel economy, and clean emissions, the 2-liter turbocharged diesel engine represents a fantastic blend of fun and frugal. We could go on talking about how much we love this engine.
Unfortunately, we don't drive engines; we drive cars.
The Jetta TDI must be looked at as a whole vehicle, and viewed as such the Jetta just doesn't shine. The cabin doesn't look like it was designed, so much as … Read more
After shopping around the prototype at car shows around the world last year, Dutch automaker Spyker is ready to unveil the production model of the C8 Aileron at the Geneva auto show in March. A topless version of the C8 Aileron has also been promised at the same time.
This video on YouTube.com shows the interior and exterior of the C8 Aileron prototype, but details on the final products are scarce. A Spyker representative said, the vehicle will look similar, but will be a bit more refined and with slightly different packaging. But how much more refined can you … Read more
SAN DIEGO--BMW is courting potential buyers of its revamped 7 series with a 15-city road tour. The goal: offer an early look at the flagship sedan at informal events without the cost of a national TV blitz.
The tour began Feb. 1 and runs through March 4. The 7 series is due in showrooms in late March. At a typical stop, several cars are displayed at a hotel, where BMW and event management staffers spend about 2 hours with about 100 invitees.
The guests are served appetizers and drinks, the wraps are pulled from the cars, and the potential buyers are urged to climb in and out of the vehicles and ask questions.
When the tour ends, the 7 series will have been at more than 60 events, said Alanna Bahri, brand manager for the 6 and 7 series. "It's a low-key environment," and although dealer salespeople and general managers are invited, BMW emphasizes these are not sales events, said Bahri, who spoke at a press event here. … Read more
With stunning power and handling, the CTS-V gives the already excellent Cadillac CTS a huge performance edge. First-class interior and cutting-edge cabin tech make it a comfortable cruiser, but get it on a track where you can really have some fun. BMW M3s and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG's better watch out if they see a CTS-V coming up behind them.
