It's Wii time for Hulu Plus

Hulu Plus subscribers can now access the service on the Nintendo Wii videogame console.

The partnership will offer Hulu Plus subscribers more ways to watch their streaming video on their TVs.

That's the knock on Hulu Plus and Amazon right now. Netflix, the No. 1 Web video-rental service, is compatible with many more devices. I should say that's one of the knocks. The big criticism of Hulu Plus is that managers charge the same $8 price for its streaming video but then force advertisements on viewers. But that's for another story.

When it comes to hardware, Hulu … Read more

Google+ for iOS catches up to Android with Instant Upload

Google+ for iOS has just been updated, and fortunately it's now a bit more like its Android cousin.

The biggest part of the update? Instant Upload. Long a favorite feature of many Google+ for Android (download) users, Instant Upload has finally made its way to the iOS app.

When enabled, it automatically backs up photos to a private album on your Google+ account in the cloud. It's convenient, and makes it easy to share multiple photos with your Circles later. Unfortunately, unlike the feature on the Android platform, Instant Upload for iOS only works "while the Google+ … Read more

Do Not Track Plus add-on stops the tracking paparazzi

The intent of the free add-on is as … Read more

Do Not Track Plus stomps on trackers

If ad blocking is the hacksaw of Internet-protecting add-ons, Do Not Track Plus (DNT+) is a finely honed katana, slicing out tracking behaviors embedded in sites without destroying the modern Web.

It's cross-browser and cross-platform, and will work in Firefox, Chrome, IE, and Safari. An Opera version is in the works. DNT+ blocks sites and ads from tracking you, unless you give them explicit permission to do so. For most sites, it actually rebuilds tools like social-networking buttons on the fly so you can still get your social on without sacrificing privacy or site load times. It also blocks … Read more

Google+ for Android now shows you what's hot

Google+ for Android got a major update today, boosting its performance and adding a couple of significant features designed to improve your social networking experience.

Overall, the app runs a lot faster, and scrolling through the Stream is easier, as posts are truncated so you can see more content per scroll. Also, the app no longer jumps to the top of the feed when it refreshes, making it less, well, annoying.

As for features, the app now lets you see who +1'd a post or comment. Previously you could only see the number of +1's, but now you … Read more

iPad, Kindle Fire are not post-PC, says IDC analyst

Are we in a post-PC era as the late Steve Jobs famously claimed? Not really, says IDC.

This ivory-tower debate resurfaced this week when market researcher Canalys said Apple had become the world's largest PC supplier in the fourth quarter with about 17 percent of the worldwide market.

So, how did reigning PC king Hewlett-Packard suddenly drop to a distant No. 2 with only 12.7 percent? The iPad, of course. Apple shipped more than 15 million of those in the quarter, dwarfing any other so-called "client PC" device.

"We're going through the biggest shift … Read more
