Slide show roundup: Rolls-Royce Phantom, 10 pretty cars, and YouTube on Apple TV

So, someone over at Rolls-Royce trusted our Car Tech guys enough to lend them a 2007 Rolls-Royce Phantom to review. Wow--fancy! It even has a hood ornament that retracts into the hood when the doors are locked. Now no one will steal the "Spirit of Ecstasy" and make a necklace. Is car bling still cool? Is the word "bling" even cool?

Anyway, we also have some pictures of the 10 most attractive cars that CNET has reviewed. Plus, there are photos of the Sprint Mogul by HTC and a look at YouTube videos on Apple TV. … Read more

iPhone, You Phone, I Tube, YouTube

Apple sent all the kids a-twitter (not to be confused with the popular social networking site of the same name) by revealing that the iPhone is going to have a special H.264 YouTube player built-in.

The horny (as in antlers, please get your mind out of the gutter) one thinks this is awesome and that the iPhone will quickly become the mobile platform for watching William Shatner sing "Rocket Man".

But you say to the Macalope, "Oh, one of brown fur and deadly appendages, how can I score myself a piece of pocketable technology perfectly suited … Read more

Hands-on with YouTube on Apple TV

This morning, Apple announced that YouTube videos are currently available on the Apple TV and will also be on the upcoming iPhone when it's released. We fired up our Apple TV this morning, downloaded and installed the update, then took it for a spin.

The download itself took at least 5 minutes once we hit "Download Update" from the Settings menu. Once the download finished, it had to install the update and restart, which took another few minutes. Once the main menu screen loaded, the new "YouTube" option was available.

As you might expect, the interface is pretty slick.… Read more

iPhone to feature special YouTube player

Apple's made it official: the iPhone will have full-blown YouTube integration. According to the iPhone Web site, the much-anticipated handset will include "a special YouTube player that you can launch right from the home screen." iPhone owners can now load and browse videos from the video-sharing site as well as e-mail them to their friends.

This comes less than a month after Steve Jobs announced that the company's Apple TV set-top box would also have built-in integration for the wildly popular YouTube.

The iPhone, as we all know by now, hits stores at 6 PM ET … Read more

Photos: Archos 605 WiFi in the wild

As reported earlier, the new Archos PVPs are due out at the beginning of September. Unfortunately, Jasmine and I couldn't wait that long, so we contacted the product reps at Archos to schedule some one-on-one time. The following is a photo gallery that details some of the new features we can expect from the new line once it launches (plus some shots of the set-top DVR prototype).

YouTube mobile now available for everyone

YouTube's mobile site has been live and available as of a few days ago. The service offers a hand-picked selection of videos users can watch on their mobile devices. Users have access to just the bare essentials, such as running time, rating, and a link to a video's page with more details. There is, however, no community aspect--no user comments, ratings, or video responses--the kind of things that make YouTube so interesting. Also missing is a dedicated video uploader, as mobile users are still required to submit their mobile videos via MMS messaging.

Instead of running in Flash, … Read more

YouTube

Category: Media

YouTube is one of the most well-known video services on the Internet, and more recently the battleground for copyright and intellectual property protection. YouTube lets anyone share videos online. It uses Flash and a simple video player that starts playing videos right away. While the quality isn't that great, it's become incredibly popular for the sheer amount of content that's made its way onto the site from its massive group of users.

YouTube has paved the way for a variety of other services and evolved its own services with new features such as user profiles, … Read more

YouTube is testing a new interface

YouTube has started testing a new beta interface on their site. This opt-in test lets users get a sneak peek at what YouTube's designers have been working on.

The new design features easier access to more films by the user that you are currently watching, as well as separate sections for Related Videos and Promoted Videos. According to Nathan Weinberg from InsideGoogle, the actual size of the video has also been upped to 480x395. The look and feel of the links below the video has also been improved and includes new, larger icons. The coolest improvement in this new … Read more

HeyCast: Put YouTube on your iPod

HeyCast is a new service from the folks that made HeyWatch [review], the online video conversion service. It lets you grab videos from popular hosting sites such as YouTube, Google Video, and Apple's Quicktime movie trailers site, and clump them together into a handy RSS feed you or anyone else can subscribe to in iTunes or other feed readers. The feed isn't just your standard RSS though--HeyCast grabs the Flash videos, converts them, and makes them available for offline viewing on your computer or portable devices.

I gave it a go this morning and came across a few … Read more

YouTube Trojan horse rides in on Web TV show's fame

According to Trend Micro, a Trojan horse that downloads a certain YouTube video could compromise your computer. The video appears to be an episode of Afterworld, a Web TV series about a society where technology is dead. Security vendor Websense has also been tracking this Trojan horse and has traced the video to a .su domain, which was originally assigned to the former Soviet Union and still remains in use today.

The use of online media files to infect end users with malware is not new. A worm last October used a JavaScript flaw in Apple Quicktime to spread on … Read more
