LG's 'Shine' goes for the gold

LG's phone division appears to be going full-tilt into its metallic age, at least in South Korea. Two new models in its appropriately named "Shine" line have made appearances at the company's Digital Design Center in Seoul, according to Electronista.

The first version is a special gold edition of the slider handset destined for South Korea's CDMA networks. The second is the "Shine Folder," a clamshell alternative to the original that appears to resemble one we cited last month that some speculated was possibly headed for Verizon.

Unfortunately, neither of the models displayed … Read more

Verizon's LG VX9400 could launch this month

Just last week, Crave was in a bit of fix over the launch of V Cast TV from Verizon Wireless. Though we were excited to see the service take off, we couldn't help but bemoan the fact that only the Samsung SCH-U620 was supported at launch. It's not that the SCH-U20 was particularly bad, but rather that the other V Cast TV phone, the LG VX9400, was especially good. Not only did the quality look better on the VX9400, but we also loved the nifty swivel design of the ample display. Now, thanks to an anonymous tipster, Engadget MobileRead more

V Cast TV launches in 20 cities

Sure, everyone knew this was coming but Verizon Wireless formally switched on its new V Cast TV network today in 20 markets. As we told you earlier this week, the lucky locales for the Media Flo-powered service are concentrated mostly in the Midwest and West with Jacksonville, Fla., and Norfolk/Richmond, Va., being the sole outposts on the East Coast. The full list includes Tucson, Ariz.; Palm Springs, Calif.; Denver/Boulder and Colorado Springs, Colo.; Chicago, Ill.; Wichita, Kan.; New Orleans, La.; Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.; St. Louis and Kansas City, Mo.; Omaha/Lincoln Neb.; Albuquerque/Santa Fe, N.M.; … Read more

The chocolate Samsung phone

No, Samsung didn't launch a direct competitor to the LG Chocolate (though I wouldn't put it past them) but they did introduce a chocolate-colored phone. I admit I wasn't quite expecting it, but the company today unveiled the Samsung SGH-T219 for T-Mobile. Though technically it's an upgrade from the Samsung SGH-T209, the SGH-T219's simple flip phone design actually looks more like the Samsung SGH-T619 (minus the camera lens), which also lives at T-Mobile. The phone is available in both red and chocolate, which unlike LG's black Chocolate is just a basic brown. Features are … Read more

Shiny new pictures of the LG VX8700

We mentioned the LG VX8700 earlier this month, and while we still don't know too much about the phone's actual specs (much less its launch date), Engadget Mobile managed to unearth a few lovely photos of this shimmery successor to the LG VX8600.

Rumors are that it may have a 2-megapixel camera instead of the 1.3-megapixel version on its predecessor, but that's unconfirmed at this point. Looking at the pictures, we can't help but compare the keypad to that of the Motorola Razr. Quite intriguing indeed.

As always, we'll be sure to keep our … Read more

V Cast TV could launch March 1

The tech sites are buzzing with loads of Verizon Wireless dish today. First and foremost, it's now almost certain that Verizon's V Cast TV is aiming for a March 1 launch date. That's a bit sooner than we expected (Verizon originally said near the end of March) so it's very good news indeed. If you remember, V Cast so wowed us at CES that we chose it as our best in show pick for the cell phone category.

Though Verizon showed two V Cast TV phones at CES--the LG VX9400 and the Samsung SCH-U620 (aka the … Read more

Another ugly phone, but one for charity

We've seen some over-pimped phones in our day, but this has got to be one of the ugliest. And, believe us, that's saying a lot.

It's not just the garishness that typically defines these monstrosities. In this case, the special-edition LG "Fusic" handset looks like it has some kind of disease, thanks to--what else?--an overabundance of Swarovski crystals.

We can't rag on this item too much, though, because it's been released for a charity event. MobileWhack says the special Fusic will be auctioned this June to raise funds for the Jermaine Dupri Foundation. … Read more

LG to launch two Windows Mobile 6 devices?

Engadget Mobile and Business Week have reported that LG has two Windows Mobile 6 devices in the works, and one of them looks to be the uberstylish LG Prada phone that we mentioned awhile back. A "specially tweaked" interface is supposedly in the works for the touch screen phone, and the other device is apparently more "Chocolate-like." All this ranks rather high on the speculation meter, but we'll keep our radar up for more information.

Is LG taking a new 'shine' to Verizon?

It's not exactly the LG Shine that we were lusting after at CES, but when we spotted the LG VX8700 over on Engadget Mobile we immediately thought, "Ooh, shiny!" Aside from Verizon maybe getting first dibs at it, we haven't been able to dig up any additional information about this shimmery new phone. For now, you'll have to make do with a pretty picture of what looks to be a very nice successor to the LG VX8600.

LG Chocolate now in Strawberry

Yeah, we mentioned the LG Strawberry Chocolate last week in our list of Valentine-themed cell phones, but we had no photo to clue us in to the look of the Strawberry Chocolate. Well, it turns out that the Strawberry Chocolate is not red like we thought it would be--it is in fact a very pastel pink (which isn't really the color that pops to mind when I think of chocolate strawberries, but I'll go with the flow). Specs are the same as the regular LG Chocolate, and it's available for $99.99 after a two-year commitment and … Read more
