Chevy Volt sounds sweet with Bose

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is all about energy efficiency, but that doesn't mean it's boring. The new Energy Efficient Series sound system from Bose is 30 percent smaller, 40 percent lighter, and uses 50 percent less energy than conventional Bose sound systems, company reps say.

The Volt made an appearance at the Chicago Auto Show. Company reps from Chevy and Bose talk up the new sound system.

2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 review

Mercdes-Benz brings a new small SUV onto the scene with the GLK350. This model has the same five-passenger configuration as the M-class, but it costs substantially less. The GLK350 also offers the new cabin tech package we first saw, and liked, in the updated C-class. The only thing we can't wrap our heads around is the GLK350's styling, which doesn't really match any current Mercedes-Benz SUVs.

All-new Kia Forte announced in Chicago

Kia Motors America introduced the all-new 2010 Kia Forte (pronounced for-tay) compact sedan at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. The 2010 Kia Forte will go on sale in North America in late spring or early summer of 2009.

At first glance, the new Forte appears to be a bit Civic-like, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. At least it's not Corolla-like. With its swept-back headlamps and a sleek--if not standardized--profile, Forte doesn't stray too far from the sporty econobox formula. We can just see the Forte SX, with its 17-inch alloy wheels and rear spoiler loitering … Read more

Chevrolet shows some Spark

At the Detroit auto show, GM gave production details for its new small car, which will come out under the Chevrolet badge with Spark as the model name. This new car is based on the Beat concept shown last year, and gets its official launch at the upcoming Geneva auto show. The Spark satisfies the need for a small city car in Chevrolet's lineup. The brand's current small car is the Aveo, but that model is licensed from Daewoo. The Spark is home-grown. As a city car, the Spark has minimal room for cargo unless there are no rear seat passengers. GM did interesting things with the styling, for example, hiding the rear door handle in the C-pillar. … Read more

Ford's first all-electric vehicle will be a van

If an electric passenger car is good, an electric people mover is even better. Ford Motor Company on Monday announced plans to bring an all-electric version of the 2010 Transit Connect to the North American market in addition to its 2.0 liter gasoline-powered model.

Based on the global Transit Connect platform, the light commercial vehicle will be built in Turkey and imported to the U.S. It will be outfitted by Smith Electric Vehicles.

Details on the vehicles are few. Ford has not announced the type of battery or its supplier. But if Smith Electric Vehicles' Ampere is similar to what the North American market will receive, the Transit Connect is powered by two 24 kWh lithium ion batteries, giving it a top speed of 70 mph and a range of up to 100 miles.… Read more

2009 Audi S8 (review)

With the S8, Audi puts a monster engine in its biggest luxury sedan. The ride suffers a bit, but this car is fast and handles well, while not leaving behind any of the fancy tech gizmos in the cabin. It's a big car, which means it takes a push to get going, so forget about any tire-squealing glory. This is a car for adults.

Mazda3 i-stop, Mazda3 MPS to debut in Geneva

Mazda Motor Corporation will debut two new Mazda3 variants at the 2009 Geneva auto show. The Mazda3 with i-stop and the Mazda3 MPS boost performance of the standard Mazda3 in very different ways: the first boosts economy, the second boosts performance.

The i-stop system, debuting on the Mazda3's MZR 2.0 DISI (Direct Injection Spark Ignition) engine, boosts fuel economy up to 12 percent by shutting down the engine when the vehicle is stopped.

The Mazda3 MPS sport compact (essentially the European version of what we call the Mazdaspeed3) features a sharpening of the 2010 Mazda3's big, goofy grin, … Read more
