On Monday Boxee, the Mac, Linux, and Apple TV-only Xbox Media Center derivative, announced the immediate support of video programming from Hulu and CBS. Users are now able to access the entirety both services catalogs of movies and TV shows through Boxee's interface. I spent the greater part of last night giving it a spin and while not perfect, it's off to a tremendous start.

Slide, the start-up that brought sheep-flinging to the social-networking world, has inked deals with several major content companies, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

San Francisco-based Slide makes software tools that let people add some personalization--in the form of slideshows, guestbooks, skins, or virtual pets--to their pages on all the major social networks.

Now the company is expanding its reach to include somewhat more sophisticated media. On Thursday, it plans to announce deals with several major media companies that would allow people to view clips of popular TV shows on social-networking sites, according to the Journal.

A couple weeks ago, after being briefed on the new Zune, a colleague described some of its features to his teenage daughter. She responded positively to the Wi-Fi download feature, but was skeptical about the "Buy from FM" concept that lets people tag songs they hear on the Zune's built-in radio for later purchase.

Would lots of radio stations actually support this feature or would it be relegated to a narrow niche like XM radio? (Her example, not mine.)

Day 4 of the Democratic National Convention, held on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech, ended with a Democratic presidential nominee acceptance speech by Barack Obama that left many attendees in tears of inspiration.

Obama hit on divisive subjects such as gun control, abortion, and gay marriage, as well as foreign policy and taxes. He did not mince words when he said the presumptive Republican nominee, John McCain, doesn't "get it." But his overall "change"-theme message focused on the family.
