Better developer's tools, add-on compatibility kick off Firefox 10

The bottom line: Firefox 10 is a worthy expression of Mozilla's ideals. The browser is competitively fast, sports a new minimalist look, and includes some excellently executed features. Unfortunately, that describes most of Firefox's competition, too.

Please note that the First Look video below is still applicable to Firefox 10, as is this Firefox How To collection, even though it features Firefox 4.

Review: For those of you who spent 2011 away from the Internet, it's the year that Firefox went from annual major-point updates to a Chrome-style quick-release cycle. How quick? A new major version number … Read more

Rumor Has It, Ep. 15: The CES hangover (podcast)

LAS VEGAS--CES 2012 ended with a bang, and CNET was there till the bitter, exhausted, don't know what to do with ourselves, end.

What better way to end the week than to dish about all the products we saw (and didn't see) and what it means for the tech world at large? And what better place to have a gambling show than in the gambling capital of the universe? Exactly.

In this episode, Apple rumors abound (of course), Angry Birds has basically jumped the shark big time, and where was HTC's quad-core phone? Also, Humiliation Day! And … Read more

Despite the growth of Google's Android Market, Apple's App Store is still the top dog among mobile app stores.

Looking at different app stores this past year, research firm Distimo found that sales of iPhone apps alone in Apple's iPhone App Store generated four times the revenue seen by Android Market. Sales of iPad apps in the App Store chalked up the second highest revenue total.

The standings were compiled by looking at the total revenue created by the 200 highest grossing apps across each store. For the purposes of its report, Distimo separated Apple's store … Read more

Angry Birds playground could land at parks near you in 2012

As if sailing past the 500 million download mark wasn't enough, Angry Birds developer Rovio has signed a global deal with playground manufacturer (best job ever?) Lappset Group, the Telegraph reports.

The first playgrounds will arrive in Finland next year, winging their way to British parks shortly after.

Sand pits, animal spring rides--you know, the ones you'll inevitably fall off--climbing towers with slides and swings will all be part of the park lineup, with the planet's favorite furious feathered ones incorporated into the artwork.
