Digital City 102: MacBook Air; body scanners land at JFK; and world's worst video game pitch

Is Apple's new 11-inch MacBook Air the ultimate ultraportable laptop? We compare and contrast with Acer's similar TimelineX, and also debate everything from the Samsung Galaxy Tab's contract-required pricing to the latest in privacy-invading body scanners coming to JFK and other NY-area airports.

Crave 21: Do robots count? (podcast)

This week on Crave, Donald and Eric go gaga for a robot that sings and dances, provoking the question: does it count as an extramarital affair if the woman in question is made of metal and microchips? Also, we take a look at a cozy Jedi bathrobe that would make a great gift for the man in your life, and Jasmine sings the praises of a stylish gadget bag for the ladies. (Donald, meanwhile, susses out its kid-friendliness.) Then, Old Man Donald goes on a crazy rant inspired by popular mobile game Angry Birds, which enjoyed 2 million downloads in just over two days on the Android platform. Finally, a very special This Is Why You're Fat probably won't make you fat at all...but it's still pretty gross.

Digital City 101: Apple event predictions and real guitars vs. game guitars

After 100 relatively trouble-free weekly episodes, it's at number 101 that things really start to fall apart. Over the weekend, our entire video podcast studio was ripped out and replaced with a new high-definition version.

That's great, and today's video stream looked awesome, but unfortunately, the day one gremlins are also holding our video of this week's show hostage.

Until we get that worked out, you'll have to settle for the audio version, available below.

In actual news, Apple has a big press event this week, so naturally we're in full-on prediction mode, especially when it comes to 11-inch MacBook Air laptops. We also debate the coming 4G/LTE wave in New York, and what it means for the iPhone/Android wars.

Finally, we take a look at the new deluxe Rock Band 3 Fender Mustang guitar, and compare it to a real-life guitar. Pics and a side-by-side video demo are here.

Don't forget: You can download the show's theme song as a free MP3 here for a limited time!

Crave 20: Pass the bucket (podcast)

Everyone's in the studio this week as Donald shares a little too much about his wraparound interactive plasma screen marital aid concept, and a vision for a phone you wear on your face. Fan-created Disneyland blueprints potentially point the way to a secret drug den, and a watchmaker potentially rakes in the dough by making things crooked. At the end, we explore gastronomical extremes that have us reaching for the bucket.

Digital City 100: Comic Con costumes and the ultimate video game t-shirt collection

Unless we've miscounted somewhere along the way (a distinct possibility), this week marks the 100th episode of our little outpost on the information superhighway.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Digital City show if everything ran smoothly, so you shouldn't be surprised to find that Scott has been called away on urgent business and is here only in spirit (plus, he sent a note).

Standing in is CNET News reporter Greg Sandoval, who joins the discussion on Windows 7 phones and Google's top-secret music cloud project -- but is stunned into silence by our extreme nerd-out over the past weekend's New York Comic Con.

The rest of us, however, happily narrate our photo galleries from the show, showcasing the usual collections of costumed character and overpriced collectibles.

Speaking of collectables, in honor of our centenary, we're pleased to offer the greatest Digital City giveaway ever. We're sending one viewer/listener a sweet pile a video game t-shirts -- the ultra-rare promo-only items sent to journalists and industry insiders. These are all mint condition, never worn, and include shirts for Dead Space, GTA4, and many more.

To win the Ultimate Video Game T-Shirt Collection just hop on over to the show's Twitter account, @digitalcitycnet and follow us, then RT the post about this episode.

We'll pick a random winner at the end of the week, and there are also a pile of runner-up prizes, including some Red Dead Redemption swag and a copy of the new Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light game for DS.

Special bonus: At long last, download the show's theme song as a free MP3 here!

Crave Extras: Donald and the Archos 32

A few weeks ago, I posted a couple videos of Donald Bell and I saying unspeakable (!) things about the Dell Streak and the Livescribe Echo. We tried to do it in a real off-the-cuff, informal way.

We affectionately referred to those videos as "One on One" and we received lots of positive feedback. In light of that, we're going to try to produce such videos on a regular basis, but under the moniker "Crave Extras." We start with the media player that thinks it's a tablet, the Archos 32.

Most of what will be … Read more

Crave 19: Toddler bots and blinky booze (podcast)

With Jasmine away covering CTIA, Donald and Eric fully nerd out with robots, robots, more robots, and a vodka bottle that attracts women with colorful blinking lights. If the vodka doesn't work, there's always a $150,000 replica of the original Batmobile with a working flamethrower. Really, what woman could resist the Batmobile?

Digital City 98: NYC Maker Faire highlights, why we keep our phones longer, and Gilt obsession

We ventured out into the real world this week, with Scott and Joey trekking out to Queens to attend the NYC version of the Maker Faire, and coming back with a slideshow of exotic DIY inventions.

A new study shows we're all keeping our mobile phones longer than ever--is it because they've gotten so good that we want to hold onto them, or because we're locked into onerous multiyear contracts? Later, Dan recalls the moment of horror he experienced last week, when he realized every single item of clothing he was wearing came from super-hot private shopping start-up Gilt.com.

In you're keeping count, we're only two weeks away from the big 100th episode special! Be sure to tune in for all sorts of surprises and giveaways, including the ultimate video game T-shirt collection and the long-awaited downloadable Digital City theme song MP3.

Crave 18: Attack of the clones (podcast)

This week on Crave, it's a "things Donald loves" episode: vinyl, action cams, and beerbots. First up, the ultraportable turntable is making a comeback in the form of the Crosley Revolution Sound Burger, and Donald's sporting the shirt to prove he's a true audio geek. Next, we take a look at some compact camcorders that attach to ears or helmets. Also, Eric isn't exactly champing at the bit to get this week's bit of "Star Wars" paraphernalia: an oddly phallic Boba Fett backpack. But things take a turn for the better when we check out a robot that can pour drinks (read: beer). Finally, Jasmine hates the Nano, but does she hate all other electronics as well? Watch on for the answer.

Digital City 97: NFL FanVision hits the field and hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy Tab

This week we check out the new NFL FanVision device, which Scott demoed live from this week's Jets game. It's a slightly dated looking handheld screen that gives you access to instant replays, other game highlights, and more, all while you're sitting in the stadium.

Following that, we discuss our recent hands-on demo with the Samsung Galaxy Tab, along with the exciting news that Google Docs editing is coming to both Android and iOS within weeks.

We also act out the latest testy Steve Jobs e-mail exchange with an equally tone-deaf college student, and finally show some some amazing video we shot that very morning, of a daredevil window washer, working on a high ledge without any kind of safety harness.
