LG Lotus blooms in our glowing review

As we mentioned in our hands-on with the LG Lotus at CTIA earlier this year, we had a really positive first impression of this new messaging phone from Sprint. Now that we've had a chance to really get to know it first-hand, we have to say we're even more impressed. At first we were skeptical about its unusual square shape, but its unique style and fabulous tactile keyboard eventually won us over. The Lotus has a very nice satiny feel in the hand, a vibrant internal display, external music player controls, and the aforementioned keyboard is as roomy … Read more

Sprint CEO says Android not good enough yet

While speaking in Washington last week,Sprint CEO Dan Hesse said that Sprint is not ready for the Google Android OS just yet. According to Reuters, Hesse said that at present Android is not "good enough to put the Sprint brand on it."

Yet, Hesse promised that the carrier would sell a phone powered by Android "at some time in the future." Sprint is a member of the Open Handset Alliance, which developed Android in partnership in Google. Hesse did not elaborate on when that would be or on what kind of Android handset it would … Read more

Sprint to start prorating early termination fees

Sprint will change course and start prorating early termination fees, the company's CEO said Tuesday. In an interview with the Associated Press, CEO Dan Hesse said the carrier could initiate the practice as early as December, after updating its billing software.

Sprint has been the lone holdout of the major carriers in trimming ETFs as customers near the end of their two-year contract. T-Mobile started prorating fees in June following the lead of Verizon Wireless and AT&T.

Though ETFs have long been the been the bane of consumers, carriers maintain that they are a way for them … Read more

Meet Motorola i776, Nextel's newest phone

Last month at the fall CTIA show, Sprint assured us that it was not forgetting its Nextel fans. The carrier promised that by the end of the year it would release four iDEN-only phones for the push-to-talk-loving masses. We've already reviewed the Motorola i365, we're still waiting for the already announced Motorola i576, and we know that an iDEN BlackBerry is on the way. That leaves the new Motorola i775 has the final model in the quarter.

Announced Monday by Motorola and Nextel, the i776 has a flip-phone design in silver with touches of dark red. As expected, … Read more

Samsung Highnote, Innov8 reviewed

This week we reviewed two Samsung handsets that span the full range of mobile multimedia. The Highnote is a new music phone for Sprint and the Innov8 is a fancy 8-megapixel camera. In North America, it is available as an unlocked model.

Samsung and Sprint introduced the Highnote at the CTIA Fall 2008 show last month. Also called the SPH-M630, the Highnote is a music phone that replaces the Samsung Upstage and the LG Muziq. It offers all the usual highlights of a Sprint music phone, with an eye-catching slider design and a new menu interface. Call and music performance … Read more

Sprint HTC Touch Pro delayed

Back at CTIA Fall 2008, Sprint announced that it would offer the HTC Touch Pro smartphone with an expected ship date of October 19. Well, with the date drawing close, I thought I'd check in with Sprint to see about getting a review unit; plus, I wanted to dispel a nasty rumor I had been hearing about a delayed launch. Friends, it's no rumor. The Touch Pro will not be available on the 19, but now we're looking to see the Windows Mobile 6.1 device around the end of October/early November. Here is the statement … Read more
