FCC approval suggests November Android debut

It looks like Google's Android software will make its formal debut in November, now that the Federal Communications Commission has given its seal of approval to the HTC Dream handset.

Engadget noticed that HTC's "DREA100" handset has been approved for sale in the U.S. after passing the FCC's wireless tests. T-Mobile is going to be the carrier for the Dream handset, which will apparently have a BlackBerry-like "jog ball" as the primary controller.

NYT: Google's Android coming soon on HTC handset

Yet another report that Google's Android software is about to make its debut surfaced Friday.

The New York Times echoed a report earlier in the week from TmoNews in suggesting that the first phone to run the Android software will be announced by handset maker HTC on T-Mobile's network next month and could begin shipping in October. It's long been expected that T-Mobile and HTC would be among the first Android partners to actually ship a product, but the timing had been unclear.

Verizon Wireless ranks No. 1 in customer service

Verizon Wireless has unseated T-Mobile USA as the U.S. mobile operator with the best customer service, according to a J.D. Power and Associates study released Thursday.

For about five years running, T-Mobile, the smallest of the four big nationwide carriers, has topped the J.D. Power survey for its good customer service and overall customer satisfaction. But it looks like Verizon Wireless has won the top honor in the customer service arena.

Verizon has always gotten high marks for its reliable network. But now it looks like customers are happy with its customer support, too.

Google's Android phone to go on sale in September?

T-Mobile USA could put the new HTC Android phone on sale for select customers as early as the middle of September, according to the blog TmoNews.

The news comes as other rumors circulate that Android phones could be delayed into 2009. But TmoNews says it has a reliable source that says the Android device made by smartphone manufacturer HTC will go on sale through T-Mobile USA on September 17.

T-Mobile Netherlands puts reception issues on Apple

T-Mobile's Netherlands division is blaming the iPhone 3G's reception issues on Apple.

In a company blog posting Tuesday morning spotted by a forum contributor at MacRumors, T-Mobile Netherlands threw the iPhone 3G under the bus, blaming Apple for the problems its customers have been experiencing connecting to 3G networks in that country. Complaints have been cropping up in the U.S. as well about the iPhone 3G's performance on AT&T's network.

As reported on Moconews, T-Mobile USA is planning to launch an open development platform for all of its phone platforms from upcoming Android to Java to Sidekick and Windows Mobile.
