LG Chocolate in 'Blue Ice'

I had no idea chocolate came in so many colors. Yes, LG has once again added yet another color to its very popular LG Chocolate product line, this time in a wintry "Blue Ice." The VX8550 Chocolate already comes in Blue Mint, Black, and Black Cherry, and the Blue Ice version will have the same exact specs and features as the others--a 1.3-megapixel camera, music player, EV-DO, V Cast support, and that cool mechanical scroll wheel with the trace motion light. You can pick it up for a reduced price of $79.99 after a $50 mail-in … Read more

First thoughts on the Verizon LG Voyager

These are a stream of consciousness, but given the high expectation level of the LG Voyager, immediate impressions are important: Beautiful front screen, clean icons...comfortable keyboard under the flip lid, yet takes getting used to, especially for those of us who love the BlackBerry Curve...hmm, a bit heavier than I expected...wow, excellent call quality...EV-DO better than EDGE, but Sprint EV-DO on Palm Centro seems noticeably faster accessing Web sites...

...perfect, quick text messaging--I could become a teenager with this thing...hmph, no Wi-Fi...easy voice dialing...no flash, yet solid camera...I like the haptic feedback, … Read more

Report: South Korea man dies in cell phone blast

While research scientists are still grappling with the possibility of harmful effects from cellular handset use on the human body, a fatal accident involving a mobile phone occurred recently in South Korea. The TelecomsKorea News Service reported that a 33-year-old man was found dead, presumably killed by an explosion of a mobile phone battery identified to be from LG, though no specific model was cited.

It was reported that the man was found lying beside an electronic shovel at a quarry where he worked. A co-worker described him as bleeding from the nose and having a phone with a melted … Read more

Shine on at AT&T

Though the LG Shine may be a few months old, that didn't stop AT&T from adding the sexy (and shiny) slider phone to its holiday season lineup. AT&T's Shine is just about identical to the unlocked version of the phone that we reviewed earlier this year, but it offers a few changes. Specifically, LG redesigned the navigation array and it made AT&T's Shine slightly smaller and lighter. The thin profile remains, fortunately, as does the vibrant display. The feature set is also similar; inside you'll find a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, … Read more

LG Voyager reviewed

It's become a rite of passage that the autumn season brings more than pumpkins and turkey dinners; it also brings another high-end messaging cell phone from LG and Verizon Wireless. Two years ago, we said hello to the LG VX9800; last year, it was the LG enV VX99000; and now in 2007, we greet the next model in the series, the highly anticipated LG Voyager VX10000. More of a thorough revamp than a simple redesign, the Voyager features everything that we liked from the VX9800 and the enV, but it raises the bar immensely by offering redesigned controls, V … Read more

LG Venus could be your fire, at your desire

Yes, we've finally reviewed the LG Venus, the unique dual-screen slider handset from Verizon Wireless. If you recall, this phone has two screens--the upper one is a typical QVGA display, while the lower is a touch screen with onscreen navigation controls. The great thing about the touch screen is that the navigation layout changes depending on what's needed. For example, when the music player is activated, music player controls are revealed, and when the camera is activated, the camera's controls are revealed. Sure it's a little gimmicky, but it works great all the same. Features are … Read more

LG Venus available now from Verizon

For those of you who have been coveting the LG Venus ever since you got a glimpse of it earlier during our CTIA coverage, you're in luck. That's because the LG Venus has gone official today on Verizon's site for immediate availability. As you remember, the Venus is a unique slider phone that has two screens on the face of it--the lower one is a touch screen for onscreen navigation--and features include EV-DO, a 2-megapixel camera, V Cast support, and more. It's available for $199.99 after a $50 discount and a 2-year service agreement.

LG's Flatron: Highest LCD contrast ratio ever

Most monitors are pretty much the same. There's a small percentage that are dreadful, a small percentage that are spectacular, and a small percentage you can punch really hard. But most are just OK, really. One monitor that's a good bet for the spectacular category is the LG Flatron L226WTQ--the world's first LCD computer monitor with a claimed 5,000:1 contrast ratio.

A high contrast ratio, for those not in the know, keeps images from looking washed out. You get very dark blacks, very bright whites, and ultimately a better picture. It's not that … Read more

LG UP3: Shiny, tiny, in the U.K. sometimey

LG's latest MP3 player, the UP3, takes all the look and feel of the FM37 or the T54 we saw at IFA. Its shiny all-metal casing houses a player that can play MP3, WMA, OGG (w00t!) and ASF video files. Video may cause a little eyestrain on such a tiny 65,000-color OLED screen, the resolution of which is currently unknown.

The UP3 will come in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB capacities and costs about 45 pounds (around $93) in South Korea. Currently there's no U.K. launch date, but such a release would compete with the iPod shuffle, … Read more

LG's phone concept, complete with alien powers

Everyone seems to be jumping into touchscreens after the huge success of the iPhone, as seen in the HTC Touch and Nokia's Series60 touchscreen version. And now it seems that LG's in on it too.

The picture here shows a concept design of the LG Touch, a mobile phone and PDA with an equally cool docking station. Like the Prada phone from the same company, this concept handset has no noticeable protrusions, which makes it look like a small monolith. It has a secondary LCD along its top edge that displays essential information like new message alerts. The … Read more
