Trendnet demonstrates first 450Mbps dual-band wireless router

LAS VEGAS--During 2010, Trendnet introduced its (and also the world's) first 450Mbps Wireless-N router, the  TEW-691GR, and the TEW-690AP access point. Both of these products, however, support only a single wireless band, operating in the 2.4GHz frequency.

Now at CES 2011 today, the company continued the effort on the faster N speed by announcing and demonstrating the first 450Mbps true dual-band router, the TEW-692GR.

Trendnet debuts 450Mbps Wireless-N access point

As if offering what appears to be the first 450Mbps Wireless-N router on the market, the TEW-691GR, weren't enough, Trendnet today announced that it's shipping the first access point offering the same speed, the 450Mbps Wireless-N TEW-690AP.

An access point, which doesn't have routing functionality, is designed to add wireless capability to a nonwireless router or network. A wireless router has both routing functionality and a built-in access point. The new Trendnet access point, therefore, is a good solution for an existing network that doesn't have wireless capability or one that has legacy wireless, such as Wireless-G or Wireless-B. Low iPod Touch battery life may be in the router

When Apple released the iOS 4.0 update, a number of iPod Touch owners found their battery life was significantly shorter. When we originally covered this issue, the solutions at the time were to turn off the Wi-Fi features, or use Airplane mode (which also turns off Wi-Fi), along with other similar suggestions that prevent network use.

Belkin on Thursday introduced a router capable of offering real-time information and advice on home energy use via a Web interface.

The Conserve Gateway router connects with a home's existing smart meter, but is not just an overview of the energy usage for the home. It can be used to monitor and control specific devices and appliances hooked into the home network. It operates via Wi-Fi or Ethernet as a standalone router, or can tie into an existing broadband router, and also has an antenna for ZigBee communication.
