In the above video, Volvo details some of the technologies it is developing in its quest toward accident-free driving. This video not only lays out Volvo's strategy, but mirrors the work other automakers are doing that will eventually result in autonomous cars.… Read more
IFTTT for iPhone allows you to setup your iPhone's Contacts app as a channel. Once set up, you can then have the app perform various functions, all of which are triggered when you add a new contact to your device. One such function is to append your new contact's information to a plain text file on Dropbox, or as another row in a Google Drive spreadsheet. Currently there's no way … Read more
Google is continuing its efforts to replace the core apps on iOS devices with the latest Chrome for iOS update.
Beyond the ability to browse Web pages in full-screen, users can now set Chrome to open Google-related links in other Google apps by default. So when you tap on an address while using Chrome, Google Maps will launch with that location plotted on the map. In the past Chrome would have directed you to the Web version of Google Maps.
To set Chrome for iOS to launch these apps … Read more
Following up on the SSD 840 series that came out in November 2012, Samsung today announced its new entry-level solid-state drive, the 840 Evo.
The main difference between the two is the fact that the 840 Evo offers up to 1TB of storage space, double that of the 840 series, and significantly faster performance.
Like the previous drive, the 840 Evo comes in the 7mm-thick, 2.5-inch design and supports the SATA 3 (6Gbps) I/O standard.
Samsung says the 840 Evo uses its compact 10-nanometer class 128GB NAND flash memory, which the company started mass-producing in April, and is … Read more
Google has begun experimenting with encrypting Google Drive files, a privacy-protective move that could curb attempts by the U.S. and other governments to gain access to users' stored files.
Two sources told CNET that the Mountain View, Calif.-based company is actively testing encryption to armor files on its cloud-based file storage and synchronization service. One source who is familiar with the project said a small percentage of Google Drive files is currently encrypted.
Google Drive offers quick storage and a really attractive layout. However, it's not worth getting too excited over as it just doesn't offer any landmark features if you're not already tethered to Google's ecosystem. If you just want some extra cloud storage, it's a no-brainer. However, if you're looking for one place to keep your data, this one might not be for you.
This app gives you 5GB of cloud storage to hold your files. If you want more, then you have to pay up; there's no way to unlock more by sharing … Read more
Zombie Escape - The Driving Dead attempts to inject something new into the increasingly stale zombie game genre, but it runs into numerous performance and design-related issues. The game, while interesting and at times quite fun, never plays smoothly; and because of strange decisions by the developers will almost certainly be a frustrating experience for most gamers in its free iteration.
The initial setup for Zombie Escape, after installation, is a frustrating process. It takes some time to navigate the menus, not all of the buttons work right away, and a lot of what you're trying to read or … Read more
As Dropbox hosted its first developer conference on Tuesday, conjuring up images of a future without hard drives and announcing its plans for cloud domination, some users still aren't happy.
Despite people being more or less satisfied with the actual service, many users complain about Dropbox's pricing. It's just too expensive, they say.
CNET performed a cost comparison with Dropbox and some of its main competitors to find out if the cloud storage and synching service is pricier than what else is out there.
CNET looked at similar plans for Google Drive, Microsoft's SkyDrive, Apple's … Read more
Google stands to rev up substantial revenue from self-driving cars.
The search giant is likely to gain whether it creates the hardware for self-driving cars or simply license the necessary software to automakers, Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster said in an investors note released Tuesday. Either way, revenue from this burgeoning sector should start to ramp up for Google before the decade is over.
"We believe the utility of reducing auto deaths and idle time in traffic add up to a $200+ billion opportunity in autonomous vehicle technology," Munster said. And the analyst sees Google as the "… Read more
A team of information and communications technology students from Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, may have found one way already -- using smartphone technology.
Their prototype car, about the size of a toy pedal car, has a smartphone mounted on the front and uses several of the phone's features for autonomous driving. The phone's camera identifies the lanes, while the phone's GPS is used for navigation. … Read more
