Timbuk2 Crater case: A little air for your Air

Timbuk2 makes some interesting laptop and tablet cases, and I thought it was worth highlighting the Crater laptop sleeve, which hit the market a few months back and is ostensibly designed for Apple's MacBook Air models but can also be used with slim Windows ultrabooks.

It has a rubbery, meshlike feel to it, and is very lightweight (I've used it for the last week with an 11-inch Macbook Air). The key feature is that if you hold it up to the light (or just look at it), you'll notice that it has lots of little perforations or &… Read more

Sena gets Creativo with iPhone 4/4S pouch case

I recently wrote something up on the Camalen Hexa, a unique flip case for iPhone 4/4S that allowed you to prop your phone up in a horizontal or vertical position. Now I've come across another new, interesting case that I think is worth a paragraph or two of blog space.

This one's the Creativo from Sena, and it's a leather pouch with a little cutout window in it right where the "Slide to unlock/answer" button is. The one problem with pouch-style cases is that you normally have to pull the phone completely out of the pouch to talk on it. But the window on the Creativo allows you to answer calls without removing the phone--you simply lift the flap and you're good to talk. … Read more

Waterfield debuts trio of PS Vita cases

Accessories for Sony's PS Vita are starting to trickle out onto the market. Most are from Sony, but Waterfield Designs, which is known for its laptop and tablet cases, has made a surprise early entry with a trio of Vita case options.

Two of the models, the minimalist Vita Suede ($12 or $15 with stretch pocket) and the PS Vita Gear Pouch Pro ($45) are available now. Meanwhile, the PS Vita Case ($49), which has a leather flap and appears to be the best of the bunch won't be available until April 1.

Photos claim to expose inside, outside of iPad 3

A couple of reports today claim to expose more pieces of the iPad 3's design puzzle.

The first is a purported photo of the next-generation iPad's circuit board. If legitimate, the chip inside the next iPad--let's call it the iPad 3--is dubbed the "A5X" not the A6 as has been rumored.

So, who cares what the chip is called you might ask? Well, barring a Photoshopped rendering of the board, this could lend credence to the speculation in some quarters that the iPad 3 won't be quad-core but a souped-up dual-core chip.

And that … Read more

Hands-on with the snappy Gizmon iCA iPhone case

YOKOHAMA, Japan--We've previously reported on the Gizmon iCA, an iPhone case that makes your smartphone look like a vintage rangefinder. The company was at the CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show, and we learned it has plans to launch a whole system of special-effect lenses and accessories for its flagship case soon.

In addition to the fisheye and macro lenses already available, future attachments will include tele, wide, tunnel effector, mirage, and circular polarizing special-effects filters. Sure, some of these effects could be easily reproduced using apps, but doing it the old-fashioned way and getting it right the first time without post-processing has a certain appeal. Other accessories include a car stand, mounted flash unit, mini tripod, remote shutter release, and silencer. … Read more

Camalen Hexa: A unique flip case for iPhone 4/4S

Camalen is a new accessories company that makes stylish leather cases for Apple mobile products.

I highlighted one of its iPad 2 cases in our Ultimate iPad 2 case roundup, and while it makes several iPhone cases, the one I found most impressive (they're all pretty impressive) is the Hexa.

First, the leather is really nice--the case comes in multiple colors--but more interestingly, it also converts into both a vertical and horizontal stand for your iPhone.

I'd seen the swiveling-case design in iPad cases but not in an iPhone case. What's also nice is that the swiveling … Read more
