Comprehensive converter

We see a lot of audio converters, and most of them are quite similar: they're easy to use, they convert files as they're suppose to, and they don't do much of anything that really impresses us. Akram Audio Converter is another entry into this field of software, but we're happy to report that it does have some characteristics that put it ahead of the competition.

We liked that the program starts with a welcome screen to help you choose which kind of converter you need to use. You are given a choice between a Real Audio … Read more

Panasonic's midrange HD camcorders slip behind the competition

LAS VEGAS--In a surprising move, Panasonic announced just one updated HD camcorder product line at CES, its midrange consumer models. All three--the flash-based HDC-TM55 and HDC-SD60 and the hard disk-based HDC-HS60--have wider angle (35.7mm equivalent), longer 25X zoom lenses than their predecessors had, plus touch screens and wind filters. This is surprising not only because of the dearth of announcements, but because most competitors have incorporated backside-illuminated CMOS sensors into their 2010 products for better low light recording.

The TM55 has 8GB of built-in memory, but the SD60 has none; all now support SDXC. The HS60 has a 120GB … Read more

Stress bester

Stress Management Guide provides insight and help into dealing with a stressful life. The program's simplicity is equally its best aspect and its weakest element.

The program's interface is simple to master, since it's just a PDF e-book. The text is written in a language that was light on jargon and very informal. The book covers the signs and symptoms of stress. The bulk of the book focused on how to deal with stress and rid your life of it. However, sound advice, such as getting 20-30 minutes of daily exercise, is overshadowed by less professional sounding … Read more

Quick Take: LG PS60 series

CNET has not reviewed the LG PS60 series of plasma TVs, but we have reviewed the LG PS80 series. The main difference between the series is the presence of the company's "NetCast" interactive features, including Netflix, Vudu, YouTube and other Internet-powered content. The PS60 lacks any such interactive features, as well as the PS80's "one sheet of glass" design, but according to the company, it's otherwise basically the same set and should provide very similar picture quality. For more information, refer to our full review of the LG PS80 series.
