Sketch n Draw Pad HD 2.0 Review

Sketch n Draw Pad HD is a free drawing app for Android devices. With a variety of brushes, effects, and other drawing tools, it's a neat, little tool for drawing and painting, editing photos, and other basic image editing chores. It's free, but it's supported by Airpush ads. In the end, the ads are just too persistent and annoying to keep this app. That's a shame because Sketch n Draw Pad HD has potential. We tried it in a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.1.1.

Sketch n Draw Pad HD doesn't let you … Read more

SequiTimer 2.04 Review

Plum Lizard's SequiTimer is a free timer app for Android. While there's nothing much special about that, SequiTimer definitely offers more than the average timer app. For starters (and finishers, too) it displays time in six digits, from hours to hundredths of a second. It can string together whole sequences of different timers, each separated by an interval marked by your ringtone or a custom sound; it can even vibrate between intervals. It keeps counting after counting down to 00:00:00:00 for timing post-event intervals. It's ad-supported freeware compatible with all versions of Android. We … Read more

Browsix Lite for Android 2.2.4 Review

Not only does this app want to rescue your phone from wires, it also wants to help you control it without needing to get up to grab it. Browsix Lite for Android finds your phone and connects fast, but the Web component seems to be broken. If it is ever fixed, this will be a nice app to have handy.

Browsix Lite for Android requires you to be on the same network as your computer in order to work. Once you're connected, you have to load the app on your phone and in your browser to make the connection. … Read more

XCOM shooter rebranded as The Bureau, arrives in August

We first got a taste of the XCOM shooter back in 2010 and even got to see it in action at E3 2011. Unfortunately, the game got delayed numerous times and eventually went dark. In fact, it got lapped by XCOM: Enemy Unknown -- its turn-based-strategy counterpart -- which turned out to be one of 2012's best titles of the year.

2K Games is ready to lift the curtain on XCOM once again, complete with a live-action trailer, a trio of screenshots, and best of all a release date. Newly titled and packaged, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is set … Read more

Split Pic 2.0 Review

Split Pic 2.0 - Clone Yourself, Better is a neat little app that lets you snap three different pictures to create a fun effect. The problem, however, is that the app is so full of ads that it ruins the user experience.

As soon as you run Split Pic 2.0, you're bombarded with ad after ad, and we very nearly tapped each one by accident. Once you can bypass them, you're greeted with the main menu, which has yet another banner ad slapped on the lower half of the screen. From there, you can select between … Read more

Recycleabook 1.2 Review

It's a well-known fact that college textbook prices are pretty outrageous and can take up a large portion of an already-strained student budget. Recycleabook.com is a college textbook buyback and purchase site that claims to let you sell and buy books at fair prices. We've never used the site before, so we can't vouch for that, but we can at least vouch for the iPhone app. And, well, we didn't get very far with it.

Once installed, we launched the Recycleabook app. We were greeted with a main screen that asked us to supply a … Read more

LinkedIn Contacts looks to boost relationships

CNET Update has much to say:

It's hard to remember everything. Apps can help. And LinkedIn's Contacts app wants to help make sure you remember more about your professional contacts.

If you're trying to make it in the business world but don't have time for networking and schmoozing, just pay a ton of money for the chance to become BFFs with Apple's CEO Tim Cook. Coffee is included.

Talking to people can be hard, but Facebook doesn't want you to be shy. It's encouraging more messaging by throwing green dots all over the place. … Read more

Perfect Applock Free for Android 4.2.2 Review

Something as portable and easy to lose as your smartphone deserves more than the good intentions of strangers to protect your apps and data when (not if) it goes AWOL. With so many free security apps, why would you let that happen? Perfect App Protector Free is a great example. It's also called the Lite version of a Pro app. Some users may even know it as Perfect Applock Free. Whatever you call it, this easy-to-use but effective security app from Morrison Smart Software can protect your stuff. We tried it in a Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.… Read more

BeamReader PDF Viewer 1.2.0 Review

BeamReader PDF Viewer is a free Android app that opens, displays, and saves PDF files and email attachments. It's compact and has most of the features you expect from a PDF reader, such as zoom, pinch-to-zoom, text wrap, bookmarks, and password protection. It's suitable for Android 2+ devices, but it doesn't seem to support Android 4 releases, and the developer seems to have stopped updating it. With excellent PDF utilities available from Adobe and others, and at the same price as BeamReader (free, as in no money) it's hard to see how it finds a place … Read more
