Why Box.com is king of enterprise cloud storage

LOS ALTOS, Calif.--It may be known to some as the Dropbox-for-the-enterprise, but Box.com could be forgiven for insisting on its own identity.

With more than 120,000 customers, including 82 percent of the Fortune 500, the company has made a name for itself as one of the leaders in the enterprise cloud storage and data management space. And though Box.com has Microsoft, and more recently, Google breathing down its neck, CEO Aaron Levie doesn't appear the least bit nervous.

That may be because the company has spent seven years building its business and solidifying a technology … Read more

After Facebook IPO, Zuckerberg's hardest test awaits

The clock is about to start ticking.

When Facebook goes public later this week -- potentially commanding a lofty valuation of more than $100 billion out of the gate -- the demands on the 28-year-old Mark Zuckerberg will far outweigh any sartorial silliness about what he should or should not wear.

Not that there is any immediate pressure to perform for Wall Street given the understandable excitement about the huge number of people using Facebook every month -- a customer base now approaching some 15 percent of the world's population. But honeymoons for newly public companies only last so … Read more

Facebook to reportedly boost IPO price range

Some market reports suggest Facebook may bump up its expected IPO share-price range by roughly 20 percent, possibly as early as tomorrow.

Just over an hour ago, CNNMoney markets writer Maureen Farrell tweeted that an unnamed source told her Facebook's underwriters will raise its initial offering price to a range of $35 to $40 tomorrow (h/t VentureBeat). A week and a half ago, Facebook said it planned to offer shares at a price between $28 and $35.

At the upper end of that whispered new range, Facebook would be worth $108 billion. And then everyone who's been … Read more

Forget New York: Zuckerberg reportedly set to celebrate with staff at HQ

Mark Zuckerberg is going to forgo the Nasdaq photo op to hang with his troops at Facebook headquarters when the company goes public on Friday.

That's the latest word on Zuckerberg's plans, coming from the Wall Street Journal. The Journal says that Zuckerberg has changed his plans and now doesn't plan to ring Nasdaq's opening bell at its market site at Times Square.

Facebook had been planning a celebration of sorts at its sprawling headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., and now apparently Zuckerberg will be joining the festivities, beginning at 6 a.m. The Journal says … Read more

Woz: Zuck = me + Jobs

Is Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg a combination of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak?

That's how Woz himself paints the 28-year-old CEO.

Offering his insights on Facebook as the company Zuck founded and runs preps its IPO, Wozniak told Bloomberg that he sees Zuckerberg as a "real acute" businessman who has both technical abilities, like Woz himself, and the vision and corporate smarts of Steve Jobs.

"I was thankful to have a partnership with Steve Jobs and I see Mark Zuckerberg closer to the combination of us," Woz said in the Bloomberg interview. "When he … Read more

Happy b-day, Zuck: What do you give a guy who could buy Europe?

It's a good week to be Zuck.

Mark Zuckerberg's one-time dorm room project is set to go public, to make history in the IPO record books, and to create a whole lot of instant wealth. And today the social network's CEO turns 28, an event that presumably will be marked with a flurry of birthday messages on his Facebook page.

What does one get the birthday boy who has everything? Zuckerberg himself, after all, is already among the upper sliver of the 1 percent, with Forbes putting him at No. 35 on its list of the top … Read more

Hoodie hater elaborates on Zuckerberg's disrespect for church of Wall Street

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter elaborated yesterday on his view that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg failed to exhibit "respect to Wall Street" by showing up to investor presentations in his trademark hoodie.

Pachter reiterated his displeasure with the hoodie to Bloomberg TV, saying, "A jacket over a T-shirt and jeans would be fine, it would show some respect," but Zuckerberg's choice of garb "didn't show any respect to the audience."

Pachter continued, "If he shows up and says, 'I care what you have to say, I'm listening, I'm going … Read more

Four ways Facebook has transformed the tech IPO

Commentary: Facebook isn't your typical company, so why should its IPO be any different?

In one week, Mark Zuckerberg and friends will ring the NASDAQ bell, and we will witness the largest Internet IPO in history. Facebook will likely raise more than $10 billion at a valuation I suspect will skyrocket past $100 billion.

The best part: all of this will happen under the direction of a 27-year-old CEO with absolute control over his company. Some investors are complaining about his nonchalant attitude towards the IPO (oh no, Zuck isn't wearing a suit!), but there is no shortage … Read more

Paging Mr. Zuckerberg: Pinstripe hoodie perfect for tech CEOs

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's attire has been dissected almost as much as a "Project Runway" contestant's. He got a smackdown from Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter for showing up to a meeting with potential investors while wearing a hoodie.

Perhaps a hoodie is one step too far on the casual scale. Maybe it goes beyond even the laid-back nature of the Steve Jobs' turtleneck, at least as far as some buttoned-down Wall Street types are concerned.

There's now a solution that should make everybody happy. Betabrand's Executive Pinstripe Hoodie is here to blur the lines between professional and comfortable. … Read more
