Anonymous urges PayPal boycott, condemns FBI

Anonymous is lashing out today at the FBI and especially at PayPal, urging users of the electronic payments site to dump their accounts.

In its latest "official communique" on behalf of itself and Lulz Security, the hactivist group condemned the FBI for its recent arrests of those charged in connection with hacking attacks by Anonymous in December against PayPal and a host of other companies.

Verizon accidentally reveals Bold 9930

Verizon made a bit of a boo-boo this morning and accidentally revealed the BlackBerry Bold 9930. It was unveiled in the "Explore Features" video on the product page for the BlackBerry 9650; instead of a movie of the 9650, viewers were treated to a sneak peek of the 9930 instead. That video is now no longer available, but Engadget managed to snag a rip of it.

That, along with RIM's recent news that it'll soon release OS 7, leads us to believe the Bold 9930's release is imminent.

Revealed at BlackBerry World earlier this year, the BlackBerry Bold 9930 has a 1.2GHz processor, a 2.8-inch touch screen, a super-slim profile, a larger keyboard than before, and BlackBerry 7 OS. Even though BlackBerry 7 doesn't look dramatically different from 6, the device might be sleek enough for loyal BlackBerry users to stick with RIM. What are your thoughts about the new hardware?

Images hint at Thunderbolt-equipped Apple display

Apple's 27-inch LED cinema display could soon be joining a host of other Apple products that support the higher-speed Thunderbolt technology.

MacRumors has picked up on a number of non-posted images from Apple.com depicting the company's $999 display. In the pics, the display sports a new part number (in the URL), and a newer background to match the default of Mac OS X Lion, which is expected to be released next week.

The part number is the same one that was previously believed to be a newer version of Apple's white, entry-level MacBook from a purported parts list that surfaced earlier this week.

It's worth pointing out that there are no images of the back of the display. The current model sports just three USB 2.0 ports, but no mini-Displayport, which has given way to Thunderbolt in other Mac models. However, another image--with what appear to be two of the newer display models (pictured above)--depicts one of the displays plugging into the other.… Read more

Sony prepping for Walkman refresh

Sony is preparing to launch an update for several of its high-end Walkman devices, according to FCC certification documents filed last week by the company.

The unannounced music players include models in the Walkman A and S series, which have had advanced features in the past such as an OLED screen, long battery life, and noise-cancelling technology. The Japanese company often refreshes its line of portable music players around this time each year.

What is most surprising could be the introduction of the Walkman A series in the U.S., as it sold in other major territories around the world for several years but has been missing stateside for several product cycles.

What we know is that Sony will offer four models of the luxury audio/video player: NWZ-A864 (8GB), NWZ-A865 (16GB), NWZ-A866 (32GB), and NWZ-A867 (64GB). The A867 would be the highest-capacity PMP Sony has ever offered in North America.

CNET has also learned that the refreshed A860 series Walkman will feature a large OLED touch screen, noise-cancelling technology, and integrated Bluetooth 2.0. There is no indication that Wi-Fi will be integrated. … Read more

Julian Assange's extradition hearing begins

WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange has appeared at the Royal Courts of Justice on the first day of a High Court bid to avoid extradition.

On Tuesday, the court began hearing an appeal by Assange against a decision by Belmarsh Magistrates' Court in February to send him to Sweden for questioning about allegations of rape and sexual coercion.

His defense barrister, Ben Emerson, kicked proceedings off on Tuesday by arguing that the actions behind the allegations of sexual misconduct against Assange would not be judged offenses under British law.

Images of Nokia 700 Zeta leaked

Looks like someone is really terrible at keeping secrets. What look to be official press photos of Nokia's latest smartphone, the Nokia 700 (aka Zeta), just got leaked.

Based on previous rumors, the candybar handset reportedly sports a 1GHz processor, a 3.2-inch AMOLED display, NFC connectivity, and a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash.

The handset will also be running Symbian Belle, the update to Nokia's Symbian Anna, and will be one of four upcoming phones to feature the new OS.

The Zeta may also be marketed as the "thinnest smartphone ever," according to leaked images of the specifications, but GSM Arena is reporting the thickness of the phone to be just 10mm (less than half an inch). We're guessing this could instead mean that the smartphone will be thinnest ever made by Nokia.

Apart from what's already been leaked online, an anonymous tipster has further informed us that in addition to the white and black models, the Zeta will have three other color variants at launch.

Given Nokia's penchant for red and blue as seen on the recent Nokia devices, we're guessing this may be two of the three available color options for the upcoming smartphone.

Screen shows possible Bionic, Droid 3 release dates

It's not much to go on, but this screen shot could be our best lead so far as to when the long-awaited Droid Bionic will finally be available.

AndroidCentral published this screenshot from an anonymous source that appears to show an August 4 release date for the Droid Bionic, which was first seen six months ago at CES in Las Vegas. Later it was announced that the release was being bumped to summer so that "enhancements" could be made. That could mean that the final Bionic might be quite different from what we saw at CES.

Anonymous group creates whistleblower sites

A subgroup of the Anonymous hacker group has launched two WikiLeaks-type Web sites where insiders and other hackers can expose sensitive information from governments and corporations.

The LocalLeaks.tk site is for information related to corruption and wrongdoing at a local level, while the HackerLeaks.tk site is for any other stolen data.

The HackerLeaks site, which launched on June 25, got its first submission on Tuesday--a list of personal details of Orlando, Fla., officials--though the data was posted to the LocalLeaks site, according to Forbes, which reported on the sites on Thursday.
