Lexus adds a much needed convertible to its lineup with the 2010 Lexus IS 350 C. As the name suggests, it is based on the IS 350 sedan, Lexus' smallest and most affordable car. But a low price doesn't mean a shortage of luxury; the cabin uses high-quality materials, with excellent fit and finish. Although the IS 350 C feels like a sports car initially, handling doesn't hold up when inertial forces try to drag it off the road. Steering gets vague and the car doesn't hold its line. But cabin tech is newly updated, even beyond … Read more

Japanese automakers pioneered hybrid cars, but German companies have been slow to join in. At the Frankfurt auto show, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche showed off their latest efforts, a mix of research and production vehicles. Most of these cars don't stint on the power, merely using hybrid systems to boost efficiency without shooting for stellar fuel economy.
Volkswagen also comes in with a hybrid concept in its quest to build a car that will only burn one liter of fuel over 100 kilometers. And Lexus shows off a luxury compact concept with a full hybrid power train as a … Read more
Editor's note: We've updated this post with a gallery featuring even more leaked images of the concept. Check them out!
A new front end image of the Lexus LF-Ch concept has either been leaked or revealed, either way it's been making its way around the 'net.
The concept features the same L-Finesse design elements that we've seen on previous Lexus concepts. For example, hints of the IS and HS are can be found in the shape of the bumper and headlamps, while the air intake shapes echo the LF-A concept.
While I don't think the … Read more
Lexus has released this teaser image for its LF-Ch (L-Finesse Compact hybrid) concept, which is set to make its world premier at the 2009 Frankfurt auto show.
This five-door hatchback concept will make use of "Lexus Hybrid Drive." If the recently released HS 250h is any indicator, we can expect a conservative 2.4-liter gas/electric hybrid outputting about 180-200 horsepower. As much as I'd like to dream that Lexus would drop the 340 horsepower RWD hybrid power train of the GS 450h under the hood of the concept and create a sort of high-powered hybrid Hachi-Roku … Read more

When we were introduced to Lexus' new hybrid, we were assured that the HS250h was more than just a Toyota Prius with a premium price tag. Having spent time with the "world's first dedicated hybrid luxury vehicle," we can safely say that in many ways, it is a very different animal.
Most obviously, the HS has a standard-issue sedan profile instead of the Prius' efficiency blob shape. The HS also has a bigger engine (2.4-liters) and a more refined suspension. Better interior materials and a higher grade of available cabin tech and safety tech combine to … Read more
The fastest of the Lexus GS series is a hybrid. At 5.2 seconds to 60 mph, the GS 450h beats both the GS 460 and GS 350. And it does it while getting better mileage than its model mates. That's the kind of best-of-all-worlds powertrain we can live with. Those numbers also make the advantages of a hybrid abundantly clear. Now if Lexus would get around to updating its cabin tech, the GS 450h would be just about perfect.
XM Satellite Radio will also launch as a factory-installed option on many other Toyota vehicles throughout 2009. The company estimates the number of Toyota vehicles on the road by the end of 2009 available with XM Satellite Radio will exceed one million.
In addition to XM Satellite Radio, XM NavTraffic will be standard equipment on all Camry … Read more
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- The HS 250h sedan is Lexus' first model available only as a hybrid and the only entry-level hybrid offered by a luxury brand.
The new sedan, which goes on sale in August, is the first Lexus powered by a four-cylinder engine, and it will get the best fuel economy of any Lexus model.
The basics: The HS 250h, which is four inches longer than Lexus' IS sedan, is powered by a 2.4-liter Atkinson four-cylinder engine that makes 147 hp and 138 pounds-feet of torque. Add the hybrid drive motor, and horsepower increases to 187. The engine uses an electronically controlled variable transmission.
The vehicle has four driving modes: Normal; Eco, which gives greater fuel economy; Power, designed for a sportier feel; and EV, which allows short-distance driving using only the electric motors.
Fuel economy is 35 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The next best in the Lexus lineup is the front-wheel-drive version of the redesigned RX 450h, which gets a combined 30 mpg. … Read more
