Verizon Wireless goes official with the LG Versa

Verizon Wireless and LG on Wednesday officially announced the LG Versa, saying the modular touch-screen phone will be available as of March 1. The Versa is so named for its promised versatility--it will come with different attachments so that you can customize the phone to your liking.

For starters, the Versa will come with an attachable QWERTY keyboard for easier texting. If you prefer to go without the keyboard, the Versa is still usable as a standalone touch-screen phone, especially with its generous 3-inch diagonal display.

The Versa's display also boasts an animated 3D interface, plus you can customize three different home screens with three different layouts of your choosing. There's also a full HTML Web browser that supports Flash(!) and RSS feeds, and you can keep up to three browser windows open at one time. The Versa also has a built-in accelerometer. The QWERTY keyboard attachment has a small, monochrome, external, organic, LED screen on the back, too.… Read more

LG Versa to be released March 1?

More rumors have surfaced about the LG Versa, the new all-in-one modular touch screen phone from Verizon Wireless. If you'll recall, the Versa is a touch-screen phone much like the LG Dare, but you have the option of attaching modules to it, like a QWERTY keyboard for texting, or speakers for music, or a game pad controller for games, and so forth.

It's more than a little intriguing for us, as we would like something such as this for another certain touch-screen phone (*cough*iPhone*cough*), and it looks like the Versa might come out as early as March 1, if the rumors hold true. … Read more

America's cheap car wars heat up

The cheapest car in America: Nissan Versa 1.6

There was once a time when our Car Tech test car, the Chevrolet Aveo5, reigned supreme as the cheapest car in America. News from Nissan changes all of that today.

Nissan North America, Inc., announced on Friday a new trim level for its 2009 Nissan Versa Sedan, with an MSRP of $9,990 (excluding destination fees). The new Versa 1.6 Sedan is built for value and fuel economy, with its 107-horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 34 mpg highway fuel economy rating with the 5-speed manual transmission (33 mpg with the four-speed automatic). NEC showcases tough ultraportable for business

NEC demonstrated its toughest laptop to date, the Versa S9100, at an event in Singapore. Despite its sleek frame, the company claims the top cover is built to withstand up to 300 kilograms (about 661 pounds) per square foot of pressure, more than the Panasonic ToughBook CF-W7.

However, apart from the addition of a hard disk sensor, the Versa S9100 does not include a water-resistant keyboard. Nor was it drop-tested like the ToughBook, though its data security features are much stronger with a fingerprint biometric sensor and TPM security chip combo.

Features aside, the biggest drawback was its price. At … Read more

Power Downloader manages his backups

When Power Downloader recently realized his backup system was beginning to grow cluttered, he knew he needed to take action. As someone who routinely backs up case files and secret documents to separate drives for safe keeping, the first area Power decided to clean up was where there might be duplicates or outdated files. The only problem was, with so many versions of similar files on several drives, he wasn't sure what to keep and what to delete.… Read more
