Attack of the ceiling eyeball speakers

As if there aren't already enough alien eyeball speakers to keep us awake at night, now they're descending from the ceiling to prey upon us as well.

The pair of "Venus" speakers shown on the left can be stacked and suspended with a built-in cable system, housing both woofer and tweeter in their evil orbs. It's one of two ceiling-hanging systems just released by Everything But The Box, according to AudioJunkies, the other being the "Sputnik 12S" subwoofer pictured at right.

Yes, we've finally reviewed the LG Venus, the unique dual-screen slider handset from Verizon Wireless. If you recall, this phone has two screens--the upper one is a typical QVGA display, while the lower is a touch screen with onscreen navigation controls. The great thing about the touch screen is that the navigation layout changes depending on what's needed. LG Venus available now from Verizon

For those of you who have been coveting the LG Venus ever since you got a glimpse of it earlier during our CTIA coverage, you're in luck. That's because the LG Venus has gone official today on Verizon's site for immediate availability. As you remember, the Venus is a unique slider phone that has two screens on the face of it--the lower one is a touch screen for onscreen navigation--and features include EV-DO, a 2-megapixel camera, V Cast support, and more. It's available for $199.99 after a $50 discount and a 2-year service agreement.

Verdict on the Voyager and Venus: Pretty

Though Verizon Wireless isn't announcing the LG Venus and Voyager at CTIA, the cell phones are making guest appearances. I got a few minutes to play with both handsets, the first time I've seen them in the flesh, and I all I can say is, "wow." Both the Venus and Voyager sport throughly lovely designs that will do a lot to bring more style to the formerly stodgy Verizon. Yes, they're a bit on the hefty side, but they back up their bulk with sleek and shiny profiles.
