Bad Ass American Rides Pt. 3: '68 Ford Mustang "Bullitt"

As I am currently putting together this web video blog, I am overlooking the beautiful hills and horizon of the unique American city known as San Francisco. So given this week's blog theme and my current city of residence I found it wholly appropriate to pay tribute to another of my favorite American muscle car classics, the timeless Ford Mustang GT...

The Ford Mustang has a rich 40 year history in American culture. The Mustang's humble origins were that of a "secretary" car that was transformed into a performance vehicle by racing designer Carroll Shelby. Since … Read more

Shelby announces world's fastest electric car

In conjunction with the release of its 2009 Ultimate Aero at the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show, Shelby SuperCars announced details of an electric version of this same car, due to be launched in the second half of this year. We hope the oil barons of Abu Dhabi took the news graciously, as Shelby's move seems kind of like walking into a convention of cigarette makers and announcing a cure for tobacco addiction. But maybe they merely smiled at the fairly outlandish-sounding claims by Shelby SuperCars.

According to Shelby, the powertrain developed for the Ultimate Aero EV uses a … Read more

Guinness names fastest car in the world

Shelby SuperCars' (SSC) Ultimate Aero was officially named the Fastest Production Car today by the Guinness Book of World Records. It's the first American-made car to hold the title since the Ford GT40 in 1967.

The 71-year-old driver of the Ultimate Aero, Chuck Bigelow, reached an average top speed of 256.19 miles per hour on two passes--one in each direction--on a two-lane road in rural Washington state. It broke the current official record held by the Koenigsegg CCR by 15.09 miles per hour, and the Bugatti Veyron's unofficial speed by 3.63 miles per hour. And … Read more

The twin-supercharged beast will be auctioned at the 36th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Scottsdale, Ariz., this January. Shelby has said this is the fastest street-legal Ford he has ever owned, and it was once referred to by Road & Track as "the Cobra to End All Cobras," according to Barrett-Jackson.
