Sound Asleep Pillow: Rave while you rest

Like falling asleep to the soothing sound of whale song? Like waking up to the violent posturing of G-Unit? Yes, us too. That's why we use the Sound Asleep Pillow. It's a pillow with a speaker inside it.

Just set the sleep timer function on your MP3 player, attach it to the 3.5mm headphone jack, then lay back as you enter REM--while listening to REM. It works in reverse, too. Set the wake-up function on your iPod and it'll play music first thing in the morning.

We've tested it comprehensively, and like the SleepTracker Pro, … Read more

How to make Google all nice and cuddly

Want a conversation starter? Just toss a pillow that lists off terms like "Orlando Bloom," "podcasting," and "bankruptcy" onto your couch, and your guests du jour will likely be so curious that they won't even notice you forgot to dust the top of your TiVo box.

This is, for the record, the Google News Cushion from Spring Design & Art. Those seemingly mismatched list items are, in fact, the top ten Google News searches of 2006. The company also sells a few other years' worth, too. (What do you want to bet the '… Read more

Dermond Peterson Seaside Collection

Design*Sponge featured these beautiful pillows from Dermond Peterson's newest Seaside line, and they are the perfect fresh accessories to brighten up your space. I'm personally coveting their black octopus pillows (it fits the my affinity for things black/white and nature based).

The story behind Dermond Peterson Design is quite cute too: "Founded in 2001 by sisters, Sandra Dermond and Susan Peterson, Dermond Peterson Design is an artisan/manufacturing company that combines the rich, tactile qualities of 'fine-art' printmaking techniques with innovative and slyly conceptual design strategies to produce fresh, functional textiles for everyday use at home."

Attack of the giant fuzzy phone speakers

With Caroline McCarthy on tough assignment at E3 all week, we've been having a field day poaching on some of her favorite topics. We're talking pillows specifically and, better still, ones in the kind of obscene neon colors she so loves.

These phone-shaped music pillows, for instance, connect to any MP3 player for direct eardrum-shattering pleasure while maintaining a suitably cheesy look. (The player can be kept snugly in a mesh sleeve at one end of the giant fuzz-bound receiver.)

As Shiny Shiny astutely observes, these items are being marketed for for kids, but we all know better. … Read more

Face to face with Spidey

You young'uns out there can have your Transformers and such. We oldsters, and our creaky animated icons, are making a comeback.

Soon we'll be roaring to life in Speed Racer's "Mach 5," but first we must pay respect once again to another of our childhood favorites, Spider-Man. The latest tribute to the Webbed One comes in the form of a "Spider-Man Speaker Pillow," which Uber-Review says can play tunes from an MP3 player or anything else that can take a 3.5-millimeter headphone plug.

Actually, the real reason for posting this item was … Read more

Sweet dreams of sweeter breakfast foods

We could all use these pillows. Think about it: you're dreaming of something fantastic, maybe Steve Jobs showing up at your front door to give you an iPhone with a year's worth of service as well as all the Apple product development secrets you could possibly want to hear.

But then your alarm clock goes off, and there you are in a sloppy bedroom in a cramped apartment, with nary an iPhone in sight--just that scratched three-year-old Razr that still smells like beer from the aftermath of last St. Patrick's Day and has a contacts list full … Read more

Zen Stone gets a cozy set of speakers

If it were possible for a company to spoil its products rotten, Creative would be one of the guilty parties. We recently saw how it coddled its "Zen Wav" with a cushy dock, and now it's pampering the "Zen Stone Plus" with a portable speaker system.

Just look at the new "TravelSound"--it practically cocoons the MP3 player as it nestles safely in its perfectly sized dock, resting horizontally as if ready to take a nap. The speaker system will go on sale next month for $69, according to Fareastgizmos, though we're … Read more

ICFF Field Report: Light-up huggable pillows are soooo Crave

To those who stepped in late: here at Crave, we like things that light up. So when I saw these huggable light-up pillows at ICFF, I more or less concluded that no matter what they were, they had to be blogged. Turns out they're the inaugural product from designer Diana Lin, and they're called the Rei Huggables (pronounced "ray," you know, like sunlight).

Basically, a Rei pillow is a set of 12 LEDs encased in soft silicone cases that are stashed inside a fuzzy pillow cover. The ellipse-shaped silicone cases give each pillow a sort of … Read more

Giant pillow + light = Illupillow

To me, the Illupillow looks kind of like a stingray, or maybe a flattened squishy submarine with a periscope. However, it's actually quite a cool piece of furniture, in my opinion. The giant pillow is designed to accommodate comfy floor-sprawling, with the cordless light attached so that you can read in the dark. I'm assuming it's battery-powered. Also--I'm not positive, because the product page is in Italian--it looks like the light is flexible, so you can move it out of the way if you want to use the Illupillow for non-reading laziness.

It's a creation … Read more

We don't heart this pillow

It occurs to us that the previous item may have left an erroneous impression. For the record, we wish to let it be known that not all LED products are actually useful. In fact, if Crave's posts are any indication, the superfluous may well outnumber the practical. (On second thought, Crave should never be used to judge reality in any form.)

In any event, this next example ranks right up there with the "Illuminated Handbag." The "LumiHeart" cushion is made of fiber-optic fabric lighted by batteries stuffed inside, according to Gizmodiva. There's apparently a … Read more
