Watch a Nissan Juke-R spank a trio of supercars in Dubai

When Nissan showed us renderings of a GT-R powered Nissan Juke-R, we said, "Gee, that's neat." When it started building the darn thing, our interest was piqued.

Today, we have a video of this oddest of skunkworks supercars at a street race exhibition event in Dubai going wheel-to-wheel with the likes of a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Ferrari 458 Italia, and a Mercedes-Benz SLS. Check it out below.

OK, so "wheel-to-wheel" was a bit of an overstatement as the Juke hands the trio of proper supercars their hats around an improvised short course. How did that … Read more

VW, Audi product planners think big, not small, for U.S.

While their competitors add compacts, hybrids, and electric cars, Volkswagen and Audi are pursuing a different product strategy in the United States.

Both VW Group brands want the volume and higher profits that go with larger vehicles.

VW just launched the Passat sedan designed for the United States and built at its new Chattanooga, Tenn., factory. The U.S. Passat is larger though less expensive than the version sold in Europe.

VW executives have talked about selling a small car like the European Polo in the United States. But for now they are focusing on the Passat and two other … Read more

Buy a $4.8 million model of a $380,000 real car

You have a basic accounting decision to make. You can spend $380,000 and buy a Lamborghini Aventador or you can spend $4.8 million and buy a 1:8 scale model of the same car.

As you may have guessed, the model didn't come out of a box from Hobby Lobby. It's the creation of Robert Gülpen, a German engineer who specializes in making car models from precious materials. I didn't even know that was a career option.

The body, doors, and hood are made from carbon fiber with threads of solid gold. The … Read more

Poll: Best car from Paris

With a mix of new models and concept cars at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, automakers showed off some fine sleds. We found a lot of cars we wanted to jump in and drive away right there on the show floor. Being a European show, names such as Jaguar, Lotus, Audi, and BMW stood center stage with drool-worthy vehicles.

Some of the cars touched an aesthetic nerve, works of automotive sculpture such as the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento. The Ford Focus ST looked like affordable fun, and had us eager for the U.S. launch. While the Jaguar C-X75 tweaked our … Read more

In Paris, a jet-powered Jag, a tiny Land Rover, and five Lotus concepts

We just returned from the press preview of the 2010 Paris Motor Show, which is open to the public from now until October 17, where we saw a hybrid turbine car from Jaguar, iPads in a BMW, a scary Lamborghini, a compact SUV from Land Rover, and every car Lotus will build up to 2015.

Jaguar C-X75 concept Jaguar's C-X75 is one of those concept cars we wish was in production right now. An innovative hybrid powertrain using micro-turbines means it hits 60 mph in about 3.4 seconds yet gets about 36 mpg.

Lamborghini's lightweight deviltry

To achieve a weight of only 2,200 pounds for a concept based on its Gallardo platform, Lamborghini must have relied on black magic.

But although the Sesto Elemento looks devilish enough, its black magic is carbon fiber. Lamborghini previously suggested it would attempt to meet new European emissions regulations partly by reducing the weight of its cars, and this concept shows to what extremes it is willing to go.

The Gallardo weighs in at 3,307 pounds, reasonably light for a V-10 powered car with all-wheel drive. But for the Sesto Elemento Lamborghini managed to shave off more than … Read more

Meet the new entry-level Lambo

With only 20 in production and a $1.2 million price point, the Lamborghini Reventon is a little hard to come by. But if you're not among the privileged few who will get to drive, much less own, the 650-horsepower exotic, Lamborghini created a radio-controlled version of the Reventon to give the masses a taste of the action. A very little taste: the RC is 1:10 scale of the Reventon, with a 3cc gasoline engine mated to a two-speed transmission, a fully independent suspension with hydraulic shocks, and four-wheel disc brakes. … Read more
