Find local deals with 8coupons for iOS

Oh, 8coupons, where were you last night when I stopped for dinner at Ruby Tuesday? With about three taps of my iPhone's screen, I could have saved 15 percent on my entire bill!

I won't make that mistake again. This new app serves up local deals from thousands of sources, showing them on a map or in a big searchable list. For serious bargain-hunters, it's an essential mobile companion.

But an imperfect one. For starters, you're limited to deals in your immediate area--unless you manually scroll the map to another location. There's no way to load up the deals for someplace you might be heading, which would be helpful for, say, determining ahead of time where you want to have dinner.

What's more, many of the deals I found required printed coupons, and the app offers no means for printing them. Indeed, in many cases 8coupons merely routes you to a Web page listing the deal, one that's not formatted for mobile viewing--and certainly not for mobile printing. That's a pretty major limitation.… Read more

Tweet Hunt shooting app takes aim at Twitter

The rise of Twitter has been a revelation for some people and an annoyance for others. Now you can take out your ire at inane Twitter topics with Tweet Hunt for iPhone and iPad.

Tweet Hunt is a shooting gallery app that involves using a slingshot to aim at and bean flying birds that look like Angry Birds' cousins. Each bird represents a real tweet that someone thought was important enough to share with the world.

Tweet Hunt comes in two flavors, Classic (free) and Celebirdies (99 cents). Classic lets you blast away at trending topics like "#whyareyou" and "justin won," a reference to the Bieber's recent Teen Choice award. Topics changes as Twitter trends change.

The Tweet Hunt Celebirdies edition adds an extra layer of satisfaction when you take on famous Twitter users like Snooki and Charlie Sheen. Earning points allows you to unlock more celebrities.

There's even a cute fail whale floating around in the background. If you're skilled enough to hit it, you can do some major damage to the tweeting birds.… Read more

Cadillac and Cool Hunting today announced the launch of a new application for the upcoming Apple iPad. The application features exclusive content designed inspired by the all-new 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe.

The free Cool Hunting iPad app features content optimized for the iPad and will be available on April 3 in Apple's App Store. For the next 12 weeks, the app will also include exclusive Cool Hunting coverage inspired by the CTS Coupe's design and performance.

The 2011 CTS Coupe, available this summer, includes a 304 horsepower direct-injection engine that, according to Cadillac, reduces emissions.

Deer Hunter 3D comes to iPhone and iPod Touch

My idea of hunting is watching Bugs and Daffy torture Elmer Fudd. ("Wabbit season!" "Duck season!") So I can't muster up too much excitement about Deer Hunter 3D for iPhone and iPod Touch, other than to say it entertainingly simulates the cruel act of shooting defenseless animals.

I say that as someone who enjoys--nay, relishes--games that simulate shooting zombies, aliens, people, and head crabs. So, yeah, I'm a hypocrite. The difference is, I don't relish shooting these things in real life. Now, if you'll excuse me, I see a tree that needs … Read more

Conservation groups say eBay should ban trophy hunt sales

Conservation groups praised eBay for banning the sale of ivory products in December, but on Friday they criticized the online auction site for allowing the sale of trophy hunts of lions, leopards, bears, wolves, and other animals.

Raincoast Conservation and Big Wildlife urged eBay in February to stop posting guided hunts of large predators on the auction site, arguing that trophy hunting of carnivores puts species at risk. Under guided hunts, hunters typically seek thousands of dollars up front to pay for a hunting trip and then get the remainder of the fee after an animal has been killed.

Fishing gets reel on the Xbox 360

It's not all that often that gaming publications get excited over a fishing game, but at least one is saying that The Strike is "shaping up to be the best fishing video game ever created." In fact, after playing a preview of the game, which is due out this fall, Patrick Shaw of GamePro thought it was so good it gave him "tingles" after playing it for less than an hour.

The game is being developed by Griffin International and features "realistic lake bottom topography, advanced graphics, lifelike fish behaviors, fully customizable characters and an abundance of boats, lures, rods, and reels." Griffin also has The Hunt, a realistic hunting game in the works.

Both games are sponsored by Bass Pro Shops and offer accessory options like the sweet-looking XBox 360 fishing pole controller you see below (the bundled cost of the XBox 360 controller and game will be $69.99). The Hunt and The Strike will be available for the Xbox 360, Wii, and PC later this year.

G4's video preview appears after the jump.… Read more

Step right up and test your aim!

Duck Shoot is a fun, free app that simulates a classic carnival duck-shooting booth. In this simple game, you tilt your iPhone or iPod Touch to move your gun's crosshairs and tap the screen to shoot, as duck targets randomly flip up into view. You're trying to shoot as many ducks as you can in the allotted 45 seconds--and to shoot additional targets within three seconds to score bonus points. The gameplay in Duck Shoot is extremely straightforward, but the game's double-bonus blue ducks and penalty cute-baby targets add to its replay value. Duck Shoot's challenging, … Read more

Is that a zapper in your pocket or are you just a total dork?

Thanks to this Dunt Hunt tribute shirt from the folks at NerdyShirts, you'll always have your trusty lightgun by your side. Actually, it's not so much by your side as it is in the crack of your butt, sort of like a mash-up between The Wizard and Boyz n the Hood. It won't save you from bullies at school or a burglar trying to break into your parents' basement, but you'll certainly be safe from hordes of flying ducks attacking your screen. And you can definitely use it to cap that slobbering fool the next time … Read more

FreshDeals puts online bargains in your pocket

If you're a regular reader you know I'm a sucker for deals sites. Enterprising iPhone developer Joseph Kiok is too--enough of one to write an app called FreshDeals that keeps tabs on 15 different deals sites to help you find and track the latest bargains.

While something like this would have probably been a better idea pre-economic downturn, one thing it excels at is weeding out the old deals from the new. The sites are refreshed every couple of minutes, and in turn each deal is given a time stamp and a rating from "fresh" to &… Read more
