So glad Cadillac got the ATS to market largely as expected. This company has been trying to do a small car that doesn't strike a false note for decades. The ATS may be my favorite Cadillac because, thanks to its market segment, it has the least amount of all that Caddy gilding that has always spelled Tommy Bahama to me -- which is not a compliment.

We've been getting some great ideas from you for Car Tech 101 segments, … Read more

Medical-alert bracelet begs for browser cleansing

A now-deleted Redditor posted a photo of a medical-alert bracelet that the anonymous contributor considered "sensible." Rather than listing allergies or medical conditions, it just conveys this crucial message should the wearer become incapacitated: "Delete my browser history."

The bracelet did manage to launch a Reddit discussion on whether EMTs would find it funny. The opinion was split, but a real paramedic came down on the side of definitely funny.… Read more

Using and managing the Terminal history in OS X

There are times when using the Terminal that you might enter a command or two and then want to either run it again or review a whole sequence of commands that have been entered. This can easily be done by pressing the up arrow, scrolling through the previous commands, and then pressing Enter to execute the selected one again. In addition to this approach, the Terminal supports a number of other options for revealing and rerunning entered commands.

The Terminal is able to do this because it stores a small history of the commands you have run both in its … Read more

You can collect action figures. You can make a Millennium Falcon out of gingerbread. You can dress up like Princess Leia. Those are all good things, but perhaps the ultimate expression of "Star Wars" devotion is to own a piece of the original movies.

You can't just pop down to the store and pick up a screen-used X-Wing Fighter miniature, but if you have the cash handy, you can get one from an upcoming Profiles in History auction. The X-Wing model from "Star Wars: Episode IV" is just one of several rare items up for sale starting on December 15 as part of the "Drama, Action, Romance: The Hollywood Auction 53."… Read more
