Globetrotting YouTube dancer shares his tech secrets

Sure, the YouTube video "Where the Hell is Matt 2008" is clever and maybe even inspirational, but what's been overlooked in all the hoopla over the clip is how technology contributed to its popularity.

Matt Harding first earned fame two years ago by filming himself dancing in exotic locales all over the world and posting the video montage to YouTube. Everyone from the The New York Times to National Public Radio has swooned over Harding's latest clip since it first appeared on YouTube three weeks ago.

In less than a month, the video has been viewed … Read more

Dvorak on Mac: 'The machine is not half bad'

John Dvorak said something nice about a Mac this week.

Dvorak, the long-time tech industry columnist with PC Magazine, is notorious for his negative stances on Apple and its products. So when he admitted to liking the iMac he's using, the world seemed upside down for a second.

Hello Kitty survival kit: Life worth living?

Be warned, comrades, the diabolical feline is at it again. And it will stop at nothing in its quest for world domination. It will try bribing you with riches, providing a warm blanket or even shamelessly offering to make breakfast when you sleep in late.

That's why Sanrio has come up with a branded emergency gadget as seen on the inspirational blog Hello Kitty Hell. The all-in-one survival device includes a hand-cranked phone charger, LED flashlight, AM/FM radio, compass … Read more

$20,000 MP3 player: 18k, 63 diamonds

We've been shirking our responsibilities. It's been days since we highlighted some ridiculously priced (and exceedingly unnecessary) item. So we fulfill our obligation, at least for today, with the "TrekStor i.Beat Organix Gold" MP3 player seen on Uncrate, cast in 18k gold and studded with 63 diamonds. The price? Only $20,000. And if you play your cards right, you may even be able to get free shipping from Amazon.

The diamond-covered Mercedes

Saks Fifth Avenue should be ashamed of itself. As one of the premier purveyors of all things narcissistic, it probably thought it was impressing the world with its $160,000 Saks Special Edition Mercedes. To which we now say, meh.

That's because we've since witnessed this specimen of true excess, a Mercedes SL600 encrusted with diamonds from grille to tailpipe that Luxurylaunches saw at an overseas auto show. (Well, they're not real diamonds. That would be over the top, unlike this understated look.)

Real or not, you've got to admit they got your attention. We'd … Read more
