Photos: BlackBerry Curve announced for Cingular/AT&T

Ooo, we'd hate to be a RIM BlackBerry 8800 owner right now. Just months after the 8800's release, Research In Motion and Cingular/AT&T have released a sleeker, sexier model that will make you wish that you had waited a while longer. How the world of technology can be so cruel. The RIM BlackBerry Curve (aka BlackBerry 8300) is the smallest and lightest, full-QWERTY BlackBerry to date, and we're absolutely stoked on the design. We want to be clear that the BlackBerry 8300 is more about the revamped design rather than new features (read: still … Read more

Cingular/AT&T launches the LG CU500V--or not

Update: Mere hours after we posted this blog entry, we got the news that Cingular/AT&T has pulled down the LG CU500V from its site. So either someone jumped the gun and listed it early, or the site is experiencing some technical difficulties. Plus, it looks like the Nokia N75 is suffering from the same launch fake-out. What's up, AT&T? The following is the original blog entry prior to the take down:

AT&T has just launched the LG CU500V, which is the first phone to offer live mobile video calls in the U.… Read more

Nokia N75 finally shows up at Cingular/AT&T, or does it?

Well, I'll be darned, look who finally showed up on Cingular/AT&T's doorstep: the Nokia N75. After months and months (and months) of waiting, the music-centric, 3G-loving N75 appeared on the carrier's Web site today and with very little fanfare might we add. This is just a bit curious seeing as how much hype and interest the smart phone got prelaunch, and also a bit peculiar since it seems the N75's product page is now gone from the Cingular Web site. We know it wasn't just wishful thinking on our part, because we … Read more

iPhone document reveals little

When it comes to Apple's iPhone it appears that the more we know, the less we know. Engadget was able to get its techy hands on a Q&A document sent to Cingular/AT&T employees. We can't confirm whether it's legit, but it almost reads like a script for an episode of TV's Lost. In other words, it tells us more of what we knew already while throwing us only the occasional bone. Meanwhile, the main details (such as an exact release date) remain wrapped in secrecy.

Still, there are a couple of … Read more

iPhone launch date still undetermined

Yes, we know Apple will launch the iPhone in June but it's still up in the air exactly when in June that will be. Though we've made previous guesses that the unveiling could be June 11 or June 15 (both dates are during Apple's WWDC) the company as of this week still hasn't confirmed the iPhone's birthday. In a statement related to the Leopard delay, Apple made references to late June only. "iPhone has already passed several of its required certification tests and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned," … Read more

Outage hits California Cingular customers

It's not Friday the 13th yet, but Cingular Wireless customers in Northern California have been hit with an outage that has shut down the carrier's network. As of 6pm PST today, customers aren't able to dial from their phones and calls to some Cingular customers aren't going through either. A few people have told us that it's even impossible to call customer service from their phones. Of course that makes things a bit tricky when you need to call customer service to get information about the problem.

While we're unclear as to the scope … Read more

Cingular and Verizon Wireless drop kiddie phones

Both Cingular and Verizon Wireless have pulled back from the kid-focused cell phone market as of this week. Verizon has completely halted production of the LG Migo VX1000, while Cingular will only sell its Firefly handsets through its online store (The Firefly will continue to be sold in big U.S. retailers like Wal-Mart and Target). Verizon says that it appears the LG VX3450L has taken the Migo's place -- the LG VX3450L is identical to the LG VX3450 but it has support for Chaperone, a Verizon service that lets parents keep close tabs on their kids. It appears … Read more

Cingular launches Nokia 2610

Cingular has just launched the Nokia 2610, a simple candybar phone with a few basic features, but nothing too fancy. They include texting, e-mail, instant messaging, a mobile Web browser, a speakerphone, and support for MP3 ring tones.

The handset also includes Nokia's new Xpress Audio Messaging, which sounds like a fancy name for phone tag (it lets you send voice clips to one another). It's available for the low price of $19.99 with a two-year agreement and an online discount.

Update: iPhone will be released on June 29

UPDATE on 6/4: Some weeks after this item was posted, Apple revealed its release date for the iPhone: On the first Sunday in June, the company said the iPhone would be available June 29 and began running a series of ads featuring the device.

ORIGINAL POST STARTS HERE: Ever since Steve Jobs' keynote at the Macworld Expo in January, we've known that the iPhone is being released sometime in June. But we haven't known exactly when.

Now Cingular is confirming that the release date will be June 11. A customer service manager at Cingular (we called 800-947-5096 … Read more

Palm Treo 750 gets Windows Mobile 6 and 3G love

Well, good on ya, Palm. Today, the company announced that it will offer Treo 750 owners an update to Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition. Not only does this bring the new e-mail search functionality, Calendar Ribbon, and Windows Live for Mobile integration, but for Cingular/AT&T customers, it also adds support for the carrier's UMTS/HSDPA 3G network. Sweet. Palm said it will release the upgrade later this year, but we're trying to get a hard date--or at least a more specific time frame from the company, so check back for more details.
