iOS 5 on almost 40 percent of iPhones

Just a few weeks after its debut, iOS 5 finds itself nestled on almost 40 percent of iPhones, according to stats from online ad network Chitika.

Analyzing iOS traffic on its own mobile network from October 22 to October 28, Chitika broke down the percentage of iOS 5 upgrades among Apple's three major mobile devices: the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

How's this for a prediction? By the end of 2011, the iPad will generate more than 2 percent of all North American Web traffic.

That's according to Chitika, which has been tracking iPad adoption rates on its ad network (3 billion ads served monthly across more than 100,000 sites) for some time now.

Web ad network: iOS 4 on half of iPhones

Though only a month old, Apple's new iOS 4 has found its way onto 50 percent of a sample 9 million iPhones tracked by ad network Chitika, according to stats released Monday.

Among 9 million iPhone impressions seen across Chitika's network, iOS 4 holds a slight lead over iOS 3, which was found on 49 percent of the phone's traffic. The overwhelming majority of devices included in the sampling were iPhones, according to Chitika, while a handful (just under half a percent) were iPod Touch devices.
