Adobe announced on Thursday that it has been the target of a major security breach in which sensitive and personal data about millions of its customers have been put at risk.
Brad Arkin, senior director of security for Adobe products and services, explained in a blog post that the attack concerns both customer information and illegal access to source codes for "numerous Adobe products."
A few examples include Adobe Acrobat, ColdFusion, and the ColdFusion Builder. However, as far as the source code is concerned, Adobe assured that there is no "increased risk to customers as a result … Read more
Adobe Systems has begun letting people test Ginger, its new iPad app for creating video presentations, but only in secret.
"Ginger is now in beta, and you're invited to join the Ginger prerelease program, which will give you exclusive access to Ginger before it's released to the public," the company said Tuesday in a message to those who signed up to try the software. "You'll be able to share the videos you create using Ginger with anyone, so you can share your story."
Beta testers will be able to share their stories, but … Read more
Adobe Systems, in an apparent effort to tap into the computer industry's move to mobile devices, is involved with a tablet software project called Ginger to help people create compelling presentations and sales pitches.
"A great story, well told, can change the world, but showing a great story is hard. You have to be a writer, an artist, an animator, and you have to have a lot of time," a video about Ginger argues. With Ginger, though, people can "make an impact in minutes."
The software lets people create videos that draw on a library … Read more
Adobe on Monday released its latest version of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, the lower-cost versions of the company's photo- and video-editing suites geared toward hobbyists.
Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 have been overhauled to incorporate cloud-based functionality and a revamped editing experience, the company said in a statement.
"Our customers have a lot of photos and videos, and they love to use their home computers to organize them and be creative, but they also want the freedom and flexibility to view, edit, and share on their mobile devices," Lea Hickman, Adobe's vice president … Read more
Adobe Systems on Tuesday announced the availability of its $10-per-month subscription for Lightroom and Photoshop and released Lightroom 5.2, which expands and refines the software's photo-editing tools.
More details on Lightroom 5.2 are below, but here's how the new subscription works. It's called the Photoshop Photography Program, and it's available only to those who have a license to Photoshop CS3 or later. Unlike the discounted promotional price for its broader Creative Cloud subscription, which costs Creative Suite customers $30 per month for the first year and then $50 afterward, the Photoshop-Lightroom subscription price doesn'… Read more
With a net increase of 331,000 subscribers in its most recent quarter, Adobe attracted enough customers to its $50-per-month Creative Cloud subscription plan to bring the total past 1 million, the company announced Tuesday.
"We exceeded one million subscriptions during Q3, demonstrating that the transition to Creative Cloud is happening sooner than expected," Chief Executive Shantanu Narayen said in a statement.
Investors liked the news, which came along with Adobe's report of $995.1 million in revenue and earnings of 32 cents per share for the quarter ended August 30. The company's stock popped 5 … Read more
Like Google and Microsoft, Adobe Systems has been bitten by the hardware bug.
The software company announced Tuesday that it will begin selling its Mighty digital pen -- a stylus for iPads that it first demonstrated in prototype form in May. And it announced two new iOS app prototypes, Parallel and Contour, that make use of the Mighty and a related Adobe hardware product, a digitally connected ruler called Napoleon.
The Mighty is designed to close the gap between drawing on paper and using a tablet, with a Bluetooth link to the tablet software and drawing technology that Michael Gough, … Read more

Adobe Systems announced a new subscription plan for photography enthusiasts, a $10-per-month bundle of Lightroom and Photoshop that's designed to cater to people dissatisfied with Adobe's previous Creative Cloud options.
The deal is a good price -- Photoshop alone costs $10 per month for existing Creative Suite customers, but only for a limited time, after which it jumps to $20 per month. The new subscription package offers Photoshop, Lightroom, 20GB of cloud storage space, and access to Adobe's Behance network. The new bundle is $10 a month with no expiration date. It will be available once Adobe … Read more
