T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide review: Best camera around?

HTC is mighty proud of the 8-megapixel camera and accompanying camera software it put on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide, enough so that it beat its chest that this phone has the most advanced camera on any smartphone around.

We haven't had the phone in our clutches long enough to perform every test, especially against all our other smartphone cameras (but stay tuned--we will!) We did, however, run enough tests to know an overblown claim when we hear one.

The 1080p HD video capture, dual-LED flash, HDR camera software, and extensive other shooting modes are great, don't get … Read more

Testing Android battery drain at different native resolutions

A few weeks ago I posted detailing the performance scores of several smartphones.

Of particular interest were the video battery results for the Android phones. Some commenters took issue with the fact that I used 720p video to drain the battery life of the Android phones, while the iPhone 4 was tested with video running at that device's native resolution.

Some thought this was an unfair battery drain, as the 720p video would have to be resized to fit a phone's native resolution, possibly taking away processing cycles, draining the battery more quickly. Commenters suggested that the video … Read more

Streaming Netflix on the iPad via Verizon iPhone 4

One of the most exciting advantages the Verizon iPhone 4 has over its AT&T counterpart is its ability to become a mobile hot spot. A mobile hot spot allows several devices to connect to it via Wi-Fi and then uses a cellular signal to connect those devices to the Internet. Essentially the hot spot becomes a wireless router.

I was curious about the strain something like this would have on the iPhone 4's battery, so I decided to run a little test. I turned on the iPhone 4's hot spot and then connected a Wi-Fi-only iPad … Read more

Brother vs. brother: Verizon iPhone speed test results

Editor's note: The "A few notes about the tests" section was added to make the testing methodology clearer.

Soon the iPhone 4 will be available to everyone who patiently waited (years, for some) for Apple to offer it through a service provider with a better service history.

Over the next few days, there will be many questions concerning which is the better iPhone 4, and so begins our attempt to answer that question.

We've not yet had time to run any battery tests, but rest assured, those are coming. Also, though I'm personally not a … Read more

T-Mobile and HTC are set to begin releasing a much-anticipated Android 2.2 update to their MyTouch 3G handset. According to information obtained by TmoNews, the carrier will start pushing Froyo out as early as today and continue through October 25.
