The Toyota Prius, the Lexus CT 200h, and the Lexus HS 250h will be back in production in Japan on Monday, according to Toyota.
The Japanese automaker halted production after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck the country on March 11.
Toyota has been issuing statements of daily updates regarding not only vehicle production in Japan, but also the shipping of parts to its North America plants.
The company today said in a statement that Prius production will be restarted at the company's Tsutsumi plant, while the Lexus CT 200h and HS 250h will resume production at Toyota … Read more
There is no shortage of health-related apps. Some 1,500 cater to professional caregivers and laypersons alike for a range of purposes, from counting calories to learning anatomy or pulling up drug dosage recommendations.
But Mobile MIM is the first mobile app to be cleared (just last week) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that allows physicians to make medical diagnoses using images transmitted to their iPhones or iPads.
The app transmits several image types, including those from computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and nuclear medicine technology such as positron emission tomography (PET). Using software developed by Cleveland-based MIM Software, Mobile MIM allows for not just viewing of medical images, but also displaying measurement lines, annotations, and areas of interest.
While the app is indicated for use only in the absence of a workstation, it's pretty clear that the ability to view radiology images on the go could result in, shall we say, dusty workstations.… Read more
Fortunately for the guy at right, the image overlaying his torso does not show his real skeleton. Else the poor dude's spine would be located a little too far left for our comfort.
The image is actually an augmented-reality 3D CT overlay from another person that's being used in tests of a Kinect hack aimed at letting viewers see their own skeletons.
Microsoft's motion- and depth-sensing Kinect is positioned next to a big screen. When viewers stand (or dance or sway) in front of the system, it acts like a "magic mirror" that displays a virtual X-ray window in real time.
Researchers in the Technical University of Munich's Computer Aided Medical Procedures & Augmented Reality group developed the prototype system using OpenNI and PrimeSense NITE applications. The researchers currently envision the setup as a tool for teaching anatomy rather than an alternative to real-time CT scans (though with some refining, that could come too). … Read more

The National Cancer Institute isn't changing one of its key messages: don't smoke--it'll kill you.
But the mortality data from its ongoing National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) involving more than 53,000 current and former heavy smokers ages 55 to 74 is so striking that the institute announced initial findings today, ahead of a more comprehensive report.
What the trial shows is that there have been 20 percent fewer deaths from lung cancer among trial participants who receive an annual low-dose CT scan than those who receive an annual standard chest X-ray.
Lexus' new CT 200h hybrid hatchback has only been on the road for for about a month, but Lexus is already heating it up with an F Sport package, which it debuted recently at the Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) in Sydney.
For those unaware, F Sport is the Lexus analogue to Toyota's TRD division, producing performance accessories for Lexus vehicles. We've driven a few F Sport-kitted IS 350s and enjoyed the mild performance boost gained with the uprated parts, and we know that Lexus is trying to give the CT 200h a Honda CR-Z-esque performance bent, … Read more

The number of sound bar home theater systems in the $300 price range has exploded this year, but nearly all of them lack HDMI switching despite it being the near-universal home theater connection. (Now you can even connect the Nintendo Wii via HDMI.) Sony's been way ahead of the game with its HDMI port count, which is why its HT-CT100 sound bar home theater system has been one of the most popular products we reviewed. It has three HDMI inputs, excellent sound quality, and an affordable price tag.
For 2010, Sony released an updated version, the HT-CT150, and little … Read more
