Apple's LED Cinema Displays: Great, for some of us

Nearly two years ago, Apple released the 24-inch LED Cinema Display, much to the chagrin of not only PC users unable to use the display, but Mac users with older systems as well. This was thanks to Apple' s decision to use Mini DisplayPort as the display's sole connection option.

Fast-forward to today, Apple has upgraded the 24-incher with an extra 3 inches of screen real estate, and many more pixels onscreen--3.6 million to be exact. Apple also adds a ambient light sensor.

Otherwise, it's pretty similar to the monitor released in 2008. Luckily, this time there … Read more

The new Apple LED Cinema display: Same as the old? (photos)

We received the Apple Cinema display yesterday and noticed it looks a lot like the iMac 27-inch, but you know, without all that disk drive, keyboard, and silver lower bezel stuff.

Actually, it looks more like a larger version of the Apple LED Cinema Display 24-inch, released in 2008. You know, this thing looks so much like the 24-inch version that I probably could have just used the pics I shot from that monitor two years ago. Apple fixes AirPort problems marring video playback on 27-inch iMacs

Last month we blogged about a bug marring Flash playback on the latest 27-inch Apple iMacs. Users on several Web sites, including the Apple Discussion Threads, noticed a problem with the Flash player that caused choppy audio and video playback, but it appears that the newest Mac OS X v10.6.2 update fixes the issue that was apparently caused by a conflict with the Airport driver.

According to Apple, the update "addresses video playback and performance issues for iMac (21.5-inch, late 2009) and iMac (27-inch, late 2009) computers that may occur in some situations while AirPort is … Read more

Update: Reports of Flash playback issues in new 27-inch iMacs surface

Update: As more people have had a chance to dissect this issue, it is becoming more apparent that the problems with the new 27-inch iMacs are not directly related to Flash, but more likely a system-wide issue. As The Unofficial Apple Blog (TUAW) reports, Flash just highlights the issue because of the system resources it requires. TUAW also reports another possible workaround. Try power-cycling your wireless setup. Many users report relief, if only temporarily.… Read more

New Apple iMacs plagued by choppy Flash video playback?

After reading Engadget's report citing recent complaints about Flash video playback mucking up system resources on the latest 27-inch Apple iMacs, we decided to test out the claims using our own system. Users on the Apple Discussion threads noticed a bug in the Flash Player that bogs down CPU processes, resulting in choppy audio and video playback.

We visited several sites with heavy streaming video content like Hulu, YouTube, and the Break Media Network, and experienced similar issues: popping sounds and jerky video rendering the content unwatchable on several accounts. Like many of the users in the Apple thread, … Read more
