We'll get out our stopwatches to see how long it takes for them to show up on eBay.
Microsoft said on Tuesday evening, just hours before the Halo 3 beta was about to open, that the much-anticipated game will launch publicly on September 25.
This is the follow-up to Halo and Halo 2, which have been huge hits for the Xbox platform. Microsoft has been hoping it would be the monster hit it has been missing for the Xbox 360.
But reviews from a press event last week were mixed. Still, the fan base is huge and the game is almost certain to generate tremendous amounts of buzz, especially in the early going.
Microsoft also announced that next … Read more
Those with long memories in the mobile space might remember a little MVNO called Mobile ESPN that debuted some time in early 2006. The sports-based carrier catered especially to sports fanatics who wanted a cell phone that delivered real-time sports scores, sports videos, news stories, stats of favorite teams, and more, via an innovative ESPN-themed user interface. However, Mobile ESPN had to pull the plug only after a few short months, presumably due to lack of consumer interest.
Well, sports fans can now rejoice, because ESPN has partnered with Verizon to resurrect the Mobile ESPN experience via an ESPN MVP … Read more
Motorola today showed off a bunch of fancy cell phones, including the new Razr 2. At an event in New York City, the company debuted not only a successor to the popular Razr line but also showed off the Rokr Z6, the "media monster" Z8, and new versions of the Motorola Q. Multimedia is a big theme here, while slider and thin designs continue to be in. Check out photos of the event and the new handsets in our slide show.

MP3 player manufacturer Cowon has announced that their iAudio X5 MP3 player will soon be discontinued. To fill the void, reports claim that Cowon will release an iAudio X7 model sometime this summer. The X5 has enjoyed a loyal following since it debuted in 2005, due partly to its excellent sound quality. There's no word on exactly what the X7 has in store. Plenty of rumors abound and even a suspicious mock-up has surfaced.
Here's what we do know. Cowon's latest D2 MP3 player uses a touch screen. Cowon's upcoming Q5 uses a touch screen. The … Read more
It's small. It's simple. It...looks like a pebble. But that name was already taken. Yes, I'm talking about the Creative Zen Stone, and I bet you have been imagining it photographed in a variety of compromising positions. Come on, now--don't be shy. We all like viewing the latest gadgets from every angle. After all, what good is Crave without some healthy imagery. Click the photo for a full slide show of the Creative Zen Stone.
Two billion people around the globe still depend on open wood fires for cooking. That method is 5 percent efficient in using energy. The smoke is unhealthy for all those who must breathe it. And in some areas it's depleting forests that can't grow fast enough.
Now the University of Nottingham is going to try to build a thermoacoustic kitchen. And that's my new word for the day. No, not "kitchen," but "thermoacoustic." Instead of using the usual wood fire, this device would generate "sound waves through the nonuniform heating of gas.&… Read more
Move over, Nabaztag--make room for "Wassup." B2 calls its latest creation "a fusion of technology and personality" that will hit the market in July for $25, but we say it's basically a bunny bot that dances to your tunes. Transfer songs from your iPod or MP3 player to this irritatingly named speaker-toy, and it promises to look like a futuristic version of the Energizer Bunny after a dozen triple espressos. Our take: Keep it away from the kids.
AT&T has finally launched the Pantech C3b, which is apparently the world's smallest flip camera phone with Bluetooth. Measuring only 2.72 inches tall, 1.69 inches wide, and 0.8 inch thick, it is essentially the same as the Pantech C300. The Pantech C3b is different only in that it has changeable covers and that it has integrated Bluetooth. It packs in quite a number of features in such a tiny device, like a VGA camera, mobile e-mail services, text messaging, and GPRS connectivity. Sure, it's not a terribly fancy phone, but for the low … Read more
