Wine Anyone?

Been a lot of wine goodies popping up over at NOTCOT and TasteSpotting the last week or so, and with all the summer pot lucks and parties on the rise, how you present that bottle of wine can be key! So here are a few greener and more gorgeous ways to tote them around.

First here's the Tipsy Bag in felt by Illu Stration. Notice how the zipper that holds the bottle in actually doubles as the strap as well? Mary-Ann Williams is actually called the "Queen of Felt" and has many more felt wine options for you at Illu Stration. Three more options below...… Read more

Welcome to the social: iPhone-spotting in New York's nightlife scene

When all the iPhone hype ended on Friday night, many of us bloggers covering the hullabaloo had only one thought in our heads: let's party. I, however, was unable to wrest the dreaded handset from my head, and made a conscious decision to turn the evening into an iPhone-spotting safari. After all, I'd spent the whole week mingling with the geeks, fanboys, and ubernerds in the iPhone waiting line (which ultimately turned out to be futile, as there was a major shortage of shortages) so my objective for the night was to see if I actually saw any &… Read more

How to test the waters and not get wet

We know it sounds crazy, but a few gamers might actually get tired of bass fishing on the Wii. (Some people are just never satisfied.)

So for those fickle anglers who think they're good enough to progress from virtual to real waters, here's an item that may still tickle their digital fancy. The "William Joseph Infrared Thermometer" is supposedly the first point-and-shoot model of its kind, designed to literally test the waters without getting your feet wet or--more important--without disturbing the fish.

This may seem like overkill for those not acquainted with the finer points of … Read more

iPhone gets wrapped in mahogany

OK, just one more iPhone case (for now). We have an excuse for posting yet another one of these items--it's made of wood. And as we've admitted many times, we have a thing for stuff made of lumber.

The latest entry in Miniot's line of "iWood" accessories is a luxury case for the telephonic idol. This particular example scores double points because it's made of mahogany, not some cheap plywood.

The phone can be used while still in the case, according to Sybarites, because its screen is exposed but protected with a polycarbonate sheet … Read more

Tough to find instant iPhone gratification at AT&T stores

Those iPhone hopefuls who had planned to avoid long lines at Apple stores by visiting AT&T stores had to get lucky to secure one yesterday, and replacements might not arrive for weeks.

Launch day for the iPhone went very smoothly at Apple's retail stores. Plenty of units were available and long lines of customers were moved swiftly in and out of the store. But 12 of 15 AT&T stores surveyed Saturday sold out of their allotments on Friday night, which ranged from 30 units to 90 units. Only one store in Chicago still had 4GB … Read more

Big iPhone headache: Waiting for AT&T activation

So I admit it: I bought an iPhone.

That was the easy part. I should have realized that if the customer service whizzes at AT&T could find a way to mar what was otherwise a perfectly pleasant experience, they would. After nearly nine hours over 36 hours, AT&T has yet to activate my iPhone, and it can't be used until they get around to it, hopefully sometime before 2010.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Earlier on Friday, I had taken photographs of the throngs gathered outside the San Francisco Apple store at 6 … Read more

How to wear a Shuffle and not be a dork

Lest we forget, Apple still makes a few products other than iPhone, and some of them are actually pretty good for things like listening to music. Until now, though, we just didn't recommend attaching the iPod to one's head as a public service.

Monster's "iFreePlay" seems to have gotten it right, in our opinion, by using the lightweight Shuffle to rescue its wearer from fashion victimization. The $60 headphones have an iDock built into their wraparound design for easy access as well as wireless liberation, according to Tech Digest. So if you've already purchased … Read more

Playing dress-up with the iPhone

As noted back in early May, we were shocked that it had taken so long for iPhone cases to begin showing up, some five months after it had been announced. But no sooner was that item printed that the floodgates began to open.

To date, however, most of the gadget-wear has been mundane to mediocre--hardly befitting the most celebrated consumer product launch in memory, if not history. So even if the latest case from urban apparel company LRG isn't exactly your taste, we think it's worthy of mention at least for an attempt at originality beyond the usual … Read more

No manual music management on iPhone?

During CNET's review of the Apple iPhone I found a surprising omission from the iPhone's device tab in iTunes. It seems that there's no way to manually move content between iTunes and the iPhone. Instead, content management relies entirely on automatic syncing preferences. As someone who uses their iPod on multiple computers, I rely on the 'Manage music and videos manually' check box that appears in the device manager tab when I connect my iPod to iTunes. Without it, each time I sync my iPod to a different computer I run the risk of having content overwritten. … Read more

Wall-climbing robot sucks it up

Just how desperate is that housewife next door? If those down-looking satellites just don't do it for you any more, here's another way to keep an eye on your neighbor.

The Vortex Regenerative Air Movement Mobile Robot Platform (VRAMMRP) uses a patented "tornado in a cup" sucking technology to stick to walls and ceilings, then uses six wheels to position itself on the window ledge or other strategic location. Remote controlled by joy stick, the unit can send video and audio via secure Bluetooth. This equipment should be included in any self-respecting paparazzi's toolkit.
