Copier-DVD-latte combo needs a bong

It's not often that the sight of a product photo forces us to turn away. But it was necessary to avoid getting flashbacks to our "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" days.

The last thing you'd expect to trigger psychedelic memories would be a piece of office equipment, but this is no ordinary machine. And we're not just talking about the crazy magenta daisy motif, either. Konica Minolta is working on a prototype that combines the usual functions (copying, printing, scanning, faxing) with a slew of other features, including a DVD player, LCD screen, speakers and even … Read more

B&O does Bluetooth

Bang&Olufsen has something to go with your $1,275 B&O phone.

The company is planning to release its first Bluetooth headset called the EarSet 2. It offers two microphones, four hours of talk per charge and days of standby.

While B&O has not officially released the price, Ubergizmo estimates that the EarSet 2 will sell for about $250.

Meet Teddy F**pin

Don't you f***ing love cute stuffed animals?

They're the s***. But Entertainment Earth has taken huggable plush toys to an entirely new level with the Swear Bear.

Here are the f***ing basics: you hug the innocent-looking Swear Bear, and in turn, it swears profusely. We're talking classic phrases such as "Hey d***head, what're you--some kind of pervert, gotta touch teddy bears?" and "Eat s*** and die!" Awww, that's so f***ing adorable.

In addition to making Tickle-Me Elmo look like a complete a******, the Swear Bear costs only … Read more

$26 Wi-Fi finder--take that, Starbucks

Rant against Starbucks Wi-Fi, Part II. To recap: The last time we checked, Starbucks charged $10 for a single day's Net access through a T-Mobile wireless connection. And unless you're planning to hide in the restroom all night, that probably means $10 for a few hours, not the full 24.

So a very viable alternative is to ditch Starbucks altogether and find another, friendlier coffee shop that offers free Wi-Fi. In our last episode, we offered the possibility of finding just such a caffeinated oasis via a $70 Wi-Fi detector. But now, Coolest Gadgets has found one much cheaper, … Read more

USB Stormtroopers strike back

If we've learned anything from George Lucas, it's that he never lets the Empire have the final strike. So it made perfect sense that Mimico followed up its Darth Vader USB flash drive with a Chewbacca version a few weeks back. But now we learn from Josh Spear that a counterattack is being launched by Stormtroopers, in the usual sizes of 1GB, 2GB and 4GB. What will the Force come back with next?

Invasion of the ovo-speakers

We've officially crossed the line from mild obsession to full-blown paranoia over egg-shaped speakers. We're fully convinced that, one by one (or two by two), they're populating themselves in preparation for world domination.

The latest are Evergreen's pair of oval speakers, which Shiny Shiny wryly noted are offered on AudioCubes of all places. The proliferation of this USB line is apparently limited to Windows, so we're relieved to say that we may have eluded a full ovo-revolution--for now.

An LED lamp for Captain Kirk

Maybe we had phasers on our minds lately (a frightening thought), but the first thing we thought of upon seeing this lamp was the USS Enterprise.

Our weird fixations aside, the Mix Lamp from Luceplan is worth noting not just for its galactic appearance but also its practicality. According to Treehugger, the LED lamp has a life span of 50,000 hours while consuming only 5 watts of power. Unfortunately, it would probably take longer than that to offset its $472 price.

Bar codes can be your friends

When bar codes became commonplace, we thought it would only be a matter of time before we'd all be using them to organize everything. That day may finally be near, only 30 years later.

The Flic Scanner Media Organizer builds personal media libraries by scanning and cataloging music, movies and books. Microvision, which manufactures the technology, makes it sound almost too easy to be true: "Scan your items, return to your computer, plug in the scanner and watch the Collectorz.com software work for you." You can retrieve such information as cover art and track information, which … Read more

PSPs get their own handbags

Now that PSPs have discovered their inner diva, the multi-hued swans need to start accessorizing. So Sony wasted no time in commissioning a matching case/purse from designer Samantha Thavasa, whose handbags are second only to Louis Vuitton in many Japanese circles. (Dangling charms are sold separately, according to Techie Diva.) And what a surprise--one of the first colors is pink.

Talk to your remote, not the hand

TiVo may be falling under the superficial spell of techno-fashion with its Glo Remote, but competing gadgets know that beauty is only clamshell deep. Take, for example, the InVoca voice-activated universal remote, which supposedly recognizes up to four voices and 25 commands for your TV, VCR, DVD player and other devices. It also has a charging base--shouldn't all products have those by now?--and a hands-free surfing function (we're not sure exactly how that works). The InVoca's name reminds us of an Italian scooter, but we've already gotten over that. If it works as billed, we … Read more
