TSA wants to buy $3 million worth of Macs and iDevices
The Transportation Security administration wants to spend up to $3 million on 1,000 Apple computers and 1,000 Apple handheld devices over the next three years to support its counter-terriorsim efforts.

The agency filed contract documents (see below), as noted by Nextgov, to explain why it would only pursue contracts with Apple instead of inviting other manufactures to bid. The devices would be used to boost a "widening secure mobile computing pilot" program specifically calling for the use of iOS, the Apple operating system.

The document describes several uses for the products -- which also includes AppleTV, iPads, and more

Tim Cook opts out of $75M worth of company dividends

Tim Cook has twice been placed atop the list of highest-paid CEOs in recent weeks, and a new legal filing suggests he's not particularly greedy for more.

In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission today, Apple notes that Cook will not be taking the dividend equivalents on his restricted units, a detail of considerable importance given the grant of 1 million restricted stock units last year.

"At Mr. Cook's request, none of his restricted stock units will participate in dividend equivalents," the company said in the filing, which was flagged by MacRumors. "Assuming a more

Another idea for Apple's rumored TV: An 'iDevice'

It still may be a down economy for many, but the veritable cottage industry for jockeying when Apple will enter the TV business is booming. The latest to weigh in on the topic is Forrester analyst James McQuivey with a suggestion that Apple ought to offer a device that sounds to me like something between a giant iPad, and Microsoft's latest version of its Surface computer.

Without mentioning Microsoft's table computing product, which was revamped last January to work both as a table and mounted to a wall, McQuivey suggests a TV set from Apple would be more more

Tim Cook: Bringing a world of change to the world of Apple?

In his tenure as Apple CEO, Tim Cook has taken a company built by Steve Jobs, and transformed it into something a bit more corporate, according to a new report.

Although Cook himself wouldn't sit down with Fortune, the publication today published a feature citing several sources with knowledge of how the Apple chief executive has changed the company. Chief among those changes, Fortune says, is a switch from engineering-driven decision making to one that more conservatively considers production efficiency, and thus, cost-savings.

"I've been told that any meeting of significance is now always populated by project management more

Apple tinkers with iPen stylus and haptic feedback

Despite the late Steve Jobs' mockery of a stylus, Apple has been tinkering with the notion of an iPen complete with haptic feedback.

That's according to a newly published patent application unearthed by enthusiast site Patently Apple. Apple's idea for an iPen would include haptic feedback to improve the user interface.

Users would feel a small vibration depending on how much pressure they applied to the stylus, or whether the stylus moved over a link on the screen, creating a more realistic experience. It could also vary depending on the angle of the stylus, orientation to the screen, more

Apple gets Siri and John Malkovich to have a meeting of minds

John Malkovich is one of the world's more prominent Croats. Oh, alright, he was born in Illinois. But he performs regularly in Dubrovnik and his Croatian blood oozes through his personality like the finest Dalmatian wine oozes through my blood whenever I'm there.

So who better, in the midst of the deep sadness of Siri allegedly being banned by IBM, to defend her honor?

In two new Apple ads, Malkovich teaches Siri just what it is to be John Malkovich.

In the first, he jokes with Siri about Portuguese sausage. At least that's what I think he more
