Ask.com is currently the fifth most popular search engine on the Web. It lets users search the Web for links, images, videos, driving directions, and news, along with local city listings and shopping links for products.
One thing it does that no other major search engines do, is display results from these other search types on the same page. This lets you see a wide gamut of results, all at once. It also differs from other search engines in allowing users to customize and skin various elements of the engine from a large catalog, which changes the look and feel of the site entirely.

Ask.com is a simple and easy-to-use search engine that's not as popular Google or Yahoo, but still very fast and capable of searching the Web. Like competing engines, it lets users search the Web for links, images, videos, driving directions, and news, along with local city listings and shopping links for products. However, one thing it does a little better than the rest is display results from these other search types on the same page, even if it's not main category you were searching in.
Ask.com has had an interesting year. In March 2008, it cut 8 percent of its workforce and refocused its target demographic on consumers. The search interface also received an overhaul, simplifying while allowing users to customize and skin various elements from a large catalog that changes the look and feel of the site.

Ask.com may not be the No. 1 search engine out there, but it's been doing some interesting things with new Web technologies, including its mapping services. Ask.com Maps and Directions allows users to search and get directions in any city really quickly. What separates it from some other directions services is its capability to give you directions for both driving and walking. It works mostly for short hauls (obviously) and gives you turn-by-turn directions for getting around city blocks on foot. If you've ever been following a road map in the city and come across a thoroughfare that wasn't pedestrian friendly, you'll see the value here.
