WING Lounge Chair

WING Lounge Chair

*phew* Sorry its been a little quiet the last week, ever notice how everything sometimes comes down on you at once? Be it work, personal, business, family, new site launches, etc etc etc, oh how the list goes on. But, i'm back! And have some exciting fun new design finds to share with you.

You know how there's nothing quite like sinking into your temperpedic/memory foam/NASA developed craziness of a mattress? Well imagine that... all around you... in a designer lounge chair and ottoman? I wish i could tell you i was writing this from that chair now, but no such luck. This WING Lounge Chair is designed by Michael Malmborg, and "A reincarnation of the classic wing chair, created for the future. This recliner is made for serious cocooning and is the closest you can get to weightlessness. The upholstery in the Wing Chair is made by open cell visco elastic memory foam"

And as if we needed more reasons to be in complete awe of this wonder: "WING Lounge Chair is the first and only chair ever to be certified by The Space Foundation - tested and recognized by NASA. WING is also the biggest single piece of bendwood ever used to create a chair."

Beware of JEALOUS COMPUTERS! Apparently they have started to attack (particularly N95 owners)... here you see a few poor victims of a laptop bite and a keyboard to the face. Not pretty. Well Nokia has really gone all out on this viral N95 site... I just wrote up a big piece on this over at NOTCOT, and it was too hilarious, bizarre, and nicely designed not to share with you CNET readers too. Basically they have created a whole series of PSAs, posters, tshirts, and even a mug (well, half mug, and well they have a cool pic, but it seems that the computers at the factory they were meant to be made at started to attack) on the Jealous Computers site, and here's the most interesting part: submit your own attack stories and YouTube videos, and get a free shirt! The mens red says "I survived a jealous computer attack" and the girls pink says "Keep small pets away from jealous computers" - nice motivation to get the viral rolling.

Check out my screenshots and video summary, and experience it for yourself at Jealous Computers.

Pottery Barn Smart Tech

It's not JUST a bulletin board, it has speakers and chargers!

(Credit: Pottery Barn)

Smart Technology is the innovative new line by Pottery Barn. I couldn't stop laughing when i first saw this over on Cool Hunting... is this the sign that technology has truly become ubiquitous in our everyday? Or have we just redefined what makes something "smart"? Honestly, take a look at this new line of products... classic Pottery Barn styled pieces get more intelligent with the integration of speakers, powerstrips, and holes for cables to come through... Below are a few more pieces from the collection. All of this makes me wonder whether there is a need for the services of someone willing to adapt all of your antique furniture to better house your tech... embedding speakers, powerstrips, wifi boosters, splash pad chargers that work beneath that gorgeous wood inlay?

Design*Sponge featured these beautiful pillows from Dermond Peterson's newest Seaside line, and they are the perfect fresh accessories to brighten up your space. I'm personally coveting their black octopus pillows (it fits the my affinity for things black/white and nature based).

The story behind Dermond Peterson Design is quite cute too: "Founded in 2001 by sisters, Sandra Dermond and Susan Peterson, Dermond Peterson Design is an artisan/manufacturing company that combines the rich, tactile qualities of 'fine-art' printmaking techniques with innovative and slyly conceptual design strategies to produce fresh, functional textiles for everyday use at home."

Just noticed this gorgeous table at MoCo Loco. Cappuccio Design's Louis XXI Table just won first prize at the "Verona Fiere ? Centro servizi distretto del mobile". Designed by Francesco Cappuccio, Bangkok, for a :piece of furniture with a strong ironic connection to classicism in which an image with references to modern art is inserted and an original and functional solution is added." This table, although appearing like a sliced and diced modern table, is really extremely functional at holding those pesky magazines and newspapers you used to leave ON the table, you can now slot IN the table?

It's a foggy grey not quite drizzly day here today, and i just came across this Puddle Pendant Lamp at Crate and Barrel's younger store CB2. And at a low $40 price tag, they aren't kidding when they say its "priced to hang in multiples". Size? 13.25"dia.x9"H ~ and you can see an image of it in context below. They describe it as a "sleek fluid teardrop of handmade iron glossed brite white." Gorgeous isn't it?

Joseph Joseph's Cut & Carve at Delight.com just grabbed my attention this morning, and it seems absolutely brilliant (not to mention gorgeously simply designed, and those subtle spikey nubs to hold the things which may try to slip and slide while you chop and carve - yes, steak, i'm thinking of you...) and at $25 a fun gift for the kitchen gadget lovers on your list. Also, notice that subtle slant, to help you keep those delicious juices which may overflow... or to get the crumbs away from your bread without having them all over your counter? More images after the jump of this low tech kitchen accessory in action with bread, tomatoes, and a close up!

Of the many cable hiding options, i love that this KangaRoom charging station looks sleek and simple, and i wish it were as easy as walking up to it and simply dropping your phone/pda/mp3 player in the slot. Picture below of where the powerstrip and chargers go!

From the KangaRoom description: "With our Charging Station you can say good-bye to multiple chargers and their unsightly electrical cords snaking all over your desk. You can corral up to three items and neatly tuck a 10? power strip out of sight behind the sliding door. No room on your desktop for the 13" long Charging Station? You can also mount it to the wall as easily as a clock with two dry wall screws" (via BLTD)

OK, honestly, did you notice that Apple bothered to indent the button on the cover of the iPhone box? And have the whole phone slightly embossed? Let us not forget how far those design geeks at Apple go. That bag was incredible too, no creases! And it fit the iPhone boxes perfectly...three stacked would be just right, or perhaps two and some accessories. And the plastic piece that held up the iPhone when you first opened the box. What about that thick foam in the top of the lid? They really did think of everything. I just took some photographs and gushed about the design over at NOTCOT, but I couldn't resist mentioning it here too...after all, we all know that design is about far more than just the products themselves. Feel free to take a peek at more pics of all the details about the iPhone packaging that I couldn't help gushing about here.

P.S. Yes, I have heard that I might have a packaging fetish. It certainly was one of my first design passions as a kid.

tipsy wine bag

tipsy wine bag

Been a lot of wine goodies popping up over at NOTCOT and TasteSpotting the last week or so, and with all the summer pot lucks and parties on the rise, how you present that bottle of wine can be key! So here are a few greener and more gorgeous ways to tote them around.

First here's the Tipsy Bag in felt by Illu Stration. Notice how the zipper that holds the bottle in actually doubles as the strap as well? Mary-Ann Williams is actually called the "Queen of Felt" and has many more felt wine options for you at Illu Stration. Three more options below...
