As Nintendo endures slumping Wii sales, the company is becoming even more committed to maintaining the console's price point and luring customers with bundles.
"Of course, we cannot say [a Wii price cut] will never happen, but we are not thinking of it for the near future," Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata told the Associated Press today. He went on to say that his company's focus is on attracting buyers who might have thought about picking up the Wii "but never got around to buying it."
Iwata believes offering bundles is the best … Read more
Sony generated a $375 million profit during its second quarter on strong sales gains for its PCs and its PlayStation 3 game console, the company announced today.
During the quarter that ended Sept. 30, Sony tallied $20.8 billion in revenue. About $4.4 billion of that revenue came from Sony's Networked Products and Services unit, which saw a 5 percent gain year over year. That division includes both PCs and the PlayStation 3.
The increase in PC unit sales "resulted from expanding market share in all regions," the company reported. And although Sony acknowledged that its … Read more
Take-Two's Ben Feder will be departing as CEO at the end of the year.
According to Take-Two, Feder's decision to leave was rooted in his desire to "pursue plans to travel in Asia with his family for an extended period." Take-Two executive chairman Strauss Zelnick will take over the company as CEO effective January 1.
Feder became Take-Two's acting CEO and a board member in March 2007. In 2008, the company officially appointed him to the CEO post with a management agreement that extended through October 31, 2012. Prior to joining Take-Two, Feder was CEO … Read more
The Halloween trend for women, it seems, has been to get sexier and more revealing every year. I'd be lying if I said I think that's a bad thing, but there's a problem. Some things should never, ever be made sexy--like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Optimus Prime, or Ghostbusters.
The problem is that not everyone agrees. So there is a Sexy Ghostbuster costume. And a sexy Iron Man getup. And a sexy Optimus Prime outfit.
Unless your Internet connection lives under a rock, you've probably seen the sexy Chewbacca costume that made the rounds a couple of weeks ago. It's disturbing, but just the tip of the sexy-costume-trend iceberg.
I've done some digging at a wonderfully insane Web site called Buy Costumes and have hereby compiled a list of the 10 worst "sexy" costumes that would enrage, entice, or just plain confuse any self-aware geek. Starting with:
10. Sexy Ghostbuster It would be easy to start this one out with a "who you gonna call?" joke, but that would validate that this costume has anything to do with the awesomeness that is "Ghostbusters" aside from a logo. I simply will not do that. The Sexy Ghostbuster costume contains a revealing dress, Ghostbusters-logo hat, and a fake Proton Pack. Because a real Proton Pack would be cost-prohibitive.
9. Sexy Tin Man from "Wizard of Oz" I'm so confused here. The Tin Man is called the Tin Man, with "man" as part of his name. But they're calling this the Tin Woman. Whatever, the Tin Man showed no skin. Know why not? Because he had no skin, he was made of tin. That's why his name wasn't the Skin Man.
8. Ms. Kruger, aka Sexy Freddie I get the idea here: You're a girl who needs to make a splash (slash?) at a Halloween party. You want to be scary and sexy at the same time. Combining the "Nightmare on Elm Street" villain with a short, ripped dress seems like a no-brainer, but I'm lost on this one. Maybe I'm a delicate guy, but the clawed hand isn't one I'd want to hold while bobbing for apples. Or any time. … Read more
No, I'm not launching a new Apple product (at least not yet). Instead, I would like you to scan a piece of footage for me and tell me what you see.
I would like you to examine a YouTube video that has been sent to me by various readers and eminences. It has already been viewed by more than 1.6 million people. And it shows Irish film director George Clarke declaring that he has seen an old woman--or a man in drag--in the 1928 Charlie Chaplin movie "The Circus."
Why might this be remarkable? I am sure even Chaplin himself might have donned a skirt at least at some point in his life. Ah, but this skirted individual, with a hardened Edward G. Robinson-type face, appears to be talking on a cell phone.
You did hear me right. She (or he) appears to be in possession of a mobile device and chatting into it. … Read more
Nintendo has endured an extremely difficult six months.
The game company lost 2.01 billion yen, or about $24.6 million, during the six months ended on September 30. During the same period last year, it generated a profit of about of about 69.5 billion yen. Revenue for the six-month period just ended was over 363 billion yen, representing a steep decline from the 548 billion yen revenue Nintendo posted during the same period in 2009.
Although sales are slumping, Nintendo said that a key reason for the steep decline in its financials can be attributed to the strength … Read more

With the PSP Go pretty much a no-go in terms of sales, Sony has been rather quiet on the portable game console front. But now, the rumor mills are astir with actual sightings of a new PSP2 for late 2011 that will feature a touchpad on the rear.
According to the lucky eyewitnesses who have seen the upcoming device, the touch panel resembles "a big mouse trackpad" that will allow users to control their game alongside dual analog sticks.
With everything going HD these days, we can expect the PSP2 screen to be no less than high-definition. It'… Read more
