Nvidia qualifies its first LTE modem for tablets on AT&T

Nvidia first LTE modem is ready for AT&T's network.

The Icera 410 LTE modem chipset for tablets and laptops has been tested and validated for operation on the AT&T 4G LTE network, the Santa Clara, Calif. chip supplier said today.

"Validation with AT&T...paves the way for Nvidia Icera-powered LTE devices on the AT&T network through this year and next," Stan Boland, senior vice president of mobile communications at Nvidia, said in a statement.

The 410 is the first Icera modem to implement 4G LTE in Nvidia's "software defined" radio baseband processor.

The Samsung Droid Charge and the BlackBerry Torch rounded out the top five with 3.4 percent and 2.9 percent, respectively.

Apple tinkers with iPen stylus and haptic feedback

Apple tinkers with iPen stylus and haptic feedback

Despite the late Steve Jobs' mockery of a stylus, Apple has been tinkering with the notion of an iPen complete with haptic feedback.

That's according to a newly published patent application unearthed by enthusiast site Patently Apple. Apple's idea for an iPen would include haptic feedback to improve the user interface.

Users would feel a small vibration depending on how much pressure they applied to the stylus, or whether the stylus moved over a link on the screen, creating a more realistic experience. It could also vary depending on the angle of the stylus, orientation to the screen, more

T-Mobile parent DT says another sale unlikely

T-Mobile parent DT says another sale unlikely

Deutsche Telekom isn't keen on repeating last year's failed attempt to wed its T-Mobile USA unit to AT&T, or any other carrier, for that matter.

A complete sale of T-Mobile is unlikely as Deutsche Telekom focuses on turning the business around and ensuring it is a self-funding venture, Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann told shareholders today, according to a Bloomberg report.

T-Mobile has spent the last few months getting back into the wireless game in a real, aggressive way, launching ads that specifically target its competitors, including former suitor AT&T, and laying out plans to move more

Google 7-inch tablet imminent, says report

The Google 7-inch tablet is on the way, according to a fresh report -- the latest in a long line of reports dating back to the beginning of the year.

The tablet will hit the market in July, according to a Thursday report from DigiTimes. Shipments -- about 600,000 initially -- are set to begin in June, the Taipei-based publication claimed.

Asus is expected to manufacture the device.

NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim told CNET previously that a 7-inch Goggle tablet was in the works, though a June shipment date means that an original projection of an April production more

RIM loses its head of global sales in a new blow

RIM loses its head of global sales in a new blow

Already on shaky footing, Research In Motion is being dealt another blow. After 14 years of company loyalty, the company's London-based head of global sales is moving on, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Patrick Spence was with the company since 1998 but had only been in his current position as SVP and managing director of global sales and regional marketing for the last 10 months, according to The Next Web.

This shakeup comes at a bad time for RIM. It is struggling to bring back lost market share and sales for its once popular BlackBerry devices, but it'more

Don't expect a patent offensive from victorious Google

Don't expect a patent offensive from victorious Google

Today's jury verdict that Google's Android didn't infringe Oracle Java patents no doubt left many at Google breathing sighs of relief.

As Android programming evangelist Tim Bray tweeted, "F***ing A."

Google took this case to the brink, refusing to settle on either Oracle's copyright or patent infringement charges, and has emerged with minimal scarring so far. Some copyright issues remain unresolved, and there are always appeals. So far, things look a lot better than the prospect of the $2.6 billion Oracle sought. But it ain't over 'til it's over, as Yogi Berra more

Google: Your bridge from Outlook to any smartphone's calendar

I love Outlook. Don't judge; I'm not alone. It's an outstanding tool for handling e-mail and my calendar. But what if you want to view your Outlook calendar when away from your desktop? I've found Google Calendar Sync is an awesome solution.

I know there's Microsoft Exchange that many companies use for syncing Outlook to other devices. I've never been in an organization that used it. Instead, my life of syncing Outlook to a phone started years ago when I'd use Microsoft ActiveSync to have Outlook talk to my Windows Mobile phone.

Navy plans to hook up ships with 4G LTE

A few U.S. Navy ships will get their own 4G LTE networks by the end of the year.

The Navy confirmed to Wired that it would place ruggedized 4G LTE networks on three ships to allow for better mission planning.

It represents the first time the Navy has offered cellular service on any of its ships. Also a first, the Navy will be buying tablets and smartphones off the shelf and working with the National Security Agency to secure the devices.

The ships will be using a microwave-based wireless wide area network that can extend out to up to more

Nvidia's Kai platform aims to deliver $199 quad-core tablets

Nvidia's Kai platform aims to deliver $199 quad-core tablets

If you thought Nvidia was just a little too ambitious when it indicated that we'd have $199 Tegra 3 tablets by the second half of the year, this next bit might surprise you. Nvidia's Vice President Rob Csongor, speaking with investors last week, revealed that such an animal is already in production.

To be clear, I'm not talking about one particular tablet or piece of hardware expected to come to market. Called Kai, Nvidia's initiative should be considered more of a platform or strategy at this point.

Though product specifics haven't been fleshed out completely, Nvidia believes it can potentially deliver quad-core Tegra 3 tablets at the all-important $199 price point later this year. Fully realized, this would give consumers a variety of high-powered Android 4.0 tablets with Kindle Fire price tags.
