3DO steps up to the plate

Games publisher 3DO vowed Wednesday to keep the baseball season going in case of a strike. The company said in a statement that in the event players walk out Friday, it will replicate the rest of the season using its "High Heat Baseball" game and post regular reports, including box scores, on its Web site.

"We hope that this is not necessary," said CEO Trip Hawkins. "But 'High Heat Baseball'...can step in as needed to keep things alive and to provide fans with some sense of resolution as to what might have happened in the sport they love." 3DO earlier simulated an entire 2002 season with the game, ending with the New Yankees defeating the San Francisco Giants in a seven-game World Series.
