When it comes to the Internet, China is a country of contrasts. You can say what you like about celebrities or pandas or your boyfriend. But politics is a no-no that draws the wrath of censors--or worse. In fact, 50 people are in prison in China because of what they posted online.
But next summer China hosts the Olympics. As the clock counts down, there is increasing pressure by human rights campaigners for the Chinese to do more. On this week's CNET News.com Tech Politics rundown, Charles Cooper and Declan McCullagh talk with China expert Tim Wu, a professor at Columbia Law School, about the Janus-faced challenge the Internet presents to China.
