Last week, security researcher Robert Hansen disclosed an attack on the Google Desktop. Hansen talks with CNET's Robert Vamosi about his discovery, cross-site scripting attacks, and his new company, SecTheory, on this week's edition of Security Bites. Bottom line: If you want a desktop index of files on your PC, Hansen says there are other, safer desktops, such as one from Yahoo.

Researchers at eEye disclosed a vulnerability in the Yahoo Messenger IM application. One day later, two public exploits appeared on Internet mailing lists. Fortunately, Yahoo has issued a patch, but isn't requiring users to update immediately. Users should.

Microsoft's monthly Patch Tuesday is next week, and the software giant is promising six patches, four of which are to be rated "critical." Microsoft says the patches will address flaws in Outlook Express, Windows Mail (Vista) and Internet Explorer.

And we expect to learn more next week at Apple's WorldWide Developers Conference in San Francisco, but rumor has it that Leopard, the new Mac OS due later this year, will feature a new file system called ZFS.
