The security hole used to breach a MacBook in a hack-a-Mac competition last week lies in Apple's QuickTime media player, not the Safari Web browser. Moreover, the vulnerability can be exploited on Windows machines through Firefox and Internet Explorer, according to TippingPoint, which gave a $10,000 bounty for the flaw.

CNET News.com's Joris Evers and CNET.com's Robert Vamosi give their take on the aftermath of the CanSecWest PWN to Own" hack-a-Mac contest in this week's Security Bites podcast.

They also discuss Microsoft's plans to make security improvements and features it built into Office 2007 available for Office 2003 and take a look at desperate moves being made by antispyware vendors to get customers.
