The Intel long-range Wi-Fi system. It's an ordinary Wi-Fi access point (that's the thing with the two small antennas attached to a pole) that comes with software that lets the signals carry for up to 60 miles. The dish on top is a larger antenna for better reception. To improve reception, Intel has also created a "steerable" antenna (shown in the next photo). Later this year, Intel is expected to try the system in Uganda. The research is being conducted at a lab Intel has set up in Berkeley in conjunction with the University of California.
