Photos: Solar business heats up the Golden State

The gold-colored box holds the actual solar cell. After the light is reflected from the curved mirror, it shines into the box, which has more mirrors to focus the light on these highly efficient, expensive solar cells. The mounting system allows the concentrators to follow the sun all day. The mirrors, mounted on an aluminum frame, magnify the light 650 times.
